    3. Nancy, I have been on this same trial for 4 out of the 7 days now. I should tell you that I will cancel tomorrow before they start charging me. First off, they have no indexing available for any of the more valuable censuses I was mainly interested in 1860). Second, the process of changing from one image page to the next is EXTREMELY slow, so if you want to scan all pages for a particular township or ward, you are in for hours in front of the computer. And, third, printing of a page portion to fill a standard size printer sheet has so far eluded me. I'm not yet saying it's impossible, but the method certainly isn't obvious; so far I've only gotten half of my printer page filled. Good luck. 3. I have taken the Ancestry membership for one yr mainly to look up Census records. Yes it is not the same as rolling a microfilm and it would be greatly improved if they would get some indexes up to use. It has been a help to read the ancestry newsletters. There was a suggestion to view them in detail mode instead of browse mode. It does improve the time to load the images. Hope this helps. I have so much to look up in Bucks county, I will never get them all done in one year at the speed these things load.

    3. Felt I had to add my comments though I have no interest in Ancesty except that I have been a subscriber for a couple of years. First of all- Ancestry has added all those census sheets in the past year (Little more- little less). They are completing indexes of each year as fast as they can. The 1860 census is really new and will be indexed eventually. I also hate how slowly the pages load but tried it on a better computer at work and found that it is mostly my computer that is the problem- and the type of download system and amount of memory I have available. I now know to click on a page- go read some email or do some editing on my FTM files, etc. Then go back to the page. To copy a whole page- I click on print and then "print Full page". If that doesn't work for you- try saving the page and then printing from another program. You can enlarge it on a scanner program, etc. to fill the whole page. I use my MGI Photo to enlarge sections that are hard to read. Ancestry's prices are reasonable compared to Genealogy.com which provides census access to only the 1900 for more than ancestry charges for all they have available. Lastly- I find it impossible to get to a Mormon library or to travel to California, New Mexico, Massachusetts, etc. to look at census records. The expense and time would be out of reach for me. Ancestry allows me to see and print copies of the originals much cheaper and at my own speed without worrying that my time at the microfilm reader is over, the microfilm printer won't work, etc. That's my opinion- for what it's worth : ) I guess everyone should just try for themselves. (I do agree that their customer service could be improved but I have worse problems with Genealogy.com which tells me I can write for help and get a response in 5 days. After a month, I'm still waiting for a response.) Lots of luck, Donna

    3. I have belonged to Ancestry.com for at least a couple years now. Perhaps it is that I'm not a professional, but I really like the service. While the census options were slow previously, I have just bought into a dsl service (I'm an internet junky so it is well worth the cost), and the census is easy to access, scan, and print. I don't have the time to go to libraries across the country so this is an absolutely necessary service. I also subscribe to genealogy.com and it has many collections; however, I still like ancestry.com the best. > > > ==== PABUCKS Mailing List ==== > Contact Listowner ar judjack@rocketmail.com > Bucks Co Surnames http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabucks/surnamepageA.html > List Rules http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~myplace/mailing.html > Bucks Co. 3. Hodgin, Maybe you could give us a little more explanation, especially about how you make prints, and also how you get around the problem of no indexes.
