    3. Hi Lynn, I looked at the Tavern License and it only mentions Richard Thomas as apply for the license to have a "tavern" in his residence in Warrington. I don't recall the actual wording. The license did not mention Richard Brink's name. The only Brink I fouund was Henry Brink having a tavern in 1827 in Tinicum Township and it was called "Swan" Joan Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of ltguidetti Sent: Monday, November 06, 2006 11:29 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [PABUCKS] Thomas, Warrington Township, 1744+- I am looking for info on my gggggrandfather, Richard Thomas, of Warrington Township in the 1700s. There is information in the Quaker marriage records about his son, Benjamin (son of Richard, late of Warrington Twp., Bucks County). The only thing I have found that puts any Richard Thomas in Warrington Township was in the History of Bucks County (online via Google Books - didn't give me the author) where it says Richard Brink and Richard Thomas applied for a tavern license in Warrington, in 1744. Does anyone here have any idea what tavern that might be, or where I might find out more information on him? I do not believe that he is necssarily one of the Hilltown Thomases, because the children don't match up. Thanks for any help! 3. Very often these were "ordinaries" which were more like hotels that were operated in the person's home. They provided a place to sleep out of the cold and rain/snow (sometimes just a space on the floor to throw their blanket), food, water and a safe place for horses, liquor, and hot meals. The state would dictate what could be charged for each service. These were not taverns as we think of them--and they were not hotels with private rooms, either. The clients would sleep in the same room as the others, sometimes including the owner and his family. I have read of as many as 20-30 people sleeping and eating/drinking in a one room cabin that was probably smaller than your living room.
