Term meaning: Rootsweb set up the gateway for list owners to open the rootsweb message boards (online options) and allow the postings to these boards to appear on the email lists. This increases the messages to be seen on a wider scale. If they are not gatewayed, you will see only the posting to the email list. There fore most of us that run lists did open the gates to increase postings for our list members. If a member of the list doesnt have internet, they see only a small percentage of the postings on that surname, location, etc. One cannot reply to the gatewayed messages by posting a reply on the email list.
