    1. [PABUCKS-L] Hayes, Doylestown
    2. Who was asking about Hayes?? I've lost your e-mail: Here are a couple of interesting bits I found today: >From the Bucks County Intelligencer, 28 Jun 1876: Mrs. Hayes is a most attractive and loveable woman. Like her husband, she is wholly unaffected, and in manner has all the natural and spontaneous gayety of a little girl. She is the life and soul of every party, for her humor and cheerfulness never desert her, and her popularity is very great in this portion of the State. For the mother of so many children (five living and three dead), she looks singularly youthful in features. She has bright brown eyes, a regular nose, fair skin and dark hair which she dresses in the style of a quarter century ago. [No mention of her first name or husband's name; it could even have been Mrs. Rutherford B. Hayes, who was running for President at the time, but it did say "this portion of the State".] >From the Bucks County Intelligencer, 8 Jul 1876: It was not the fault of the horse attached to the butcher wagon of William Hayes which was the cause of his running away out State street on last Wednesday, and in a whirl of the vehicle around Knight's corner spilling out his owner and a lad named Frank Livezey, both of hom were somewhat bruised on striking ground. The maddened animal dashed down Clinton street until stopped at Flack's shop, and by the breaking of a swingletree a part of it was forced into his thigh, cutting a deep gash. >From the Bucks County Intelligencer, 12 Jul 1876: Many who are named Hays now put in an "e". It looks better, and then they can write it with ease.
