Mary, did you mean http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/ ? I tried that and don't see land records. I have not found a lot, but here's what I do know: Land: my ancestor, Robert Stukesbury (Stuchbury, Stutchbury, Stokesbury) was one of 14 men to whom William Penn deeded the "Park" in Wrightstown in 1719. Then in 1745 this record: "Robert Streckbury (or Robert Stutesberry) of Wrightstown, yeoman, and his wife Elizabeth, to John Gourley, sell land in Wrightstown comprising 194 acres, being part of a tract of 494 acres, which Samuel Baker and his wife Hannah had confirmed to Robert Streckbury Sept. 17, 1722, for 240 Pounds. Quakers: Deborah Stotesbury who married James Rose in Wrightstown, apparently a quaker marriage. She (Deborah Stuckbury) declared her intentions of marriage to JAMES ROSE, at the Wrightstown MM on the 2nd month, 5th day, 1735. This couple is mentioned in the Burial Record of Merion Meeting Graveyard, Montgomery County. PA. Other: Later, in 1763 I find William Stooksbury in Upper Makefield. I also know William and Jacob Stokesbury served in the Bucks County militia in the Rev. War. So, what I want to do is round out the land records, find where it was located and find the string of ownership. Find out if there are any more mentions of the family in the Quaker records. And see if there are other mentions in any of the other early records. Linda's suggestions are good. I've stayed in Doylestown at the 1814 House Inn which is within walking distance of the courthouse and the Spruance library. Depending on where your relatives were from in Bucks County, you may want to visit a more local historical society. Mine lived in Bensalem for many years, and the Bensalem historical society has a lovely volunteer staff who were very helpful when I was there last. Just remember to check the hours for all the facilities you want to use and plan to make the best use of your time. Have fun! Carol T.
