Hi Becky - thanks for your kindness in responding to queries like mine - could you please check for GEHRES, GERES, GARES, GARIS (may be more variations!) and PEIL/PHILE/PHEILE? Thanks, K. Steward

THERE IS ANOTHER ONE FULLY THERE BY JESSE C. SELL: ALTOONA AND BLAIR COUNTY. If you go to books.google.com, select Advanced Book Search, then enter "History of Bucks County" for the title and "Davis" for the author, you'll find it easily. You can view and search it on line or download the PDF. I used the same method to search for the one by Battle, and found it, but it wasn't viewable or downloadable. Google Books is wonderful for finding historical and genealogical books written in the nineteenth century. A few volumes of the Pennsylvania Archives are available there. If you have ancestors who were in any way prominent (e.g., a county sheriff), try searching for them on Google Books. I also agree, having just opened up AOL to 495 messages that the Thank you's could be private. I would also add that those asking for a look-up be a bit more specific than what do you have on a given family name. A small bit of information, if possible, goes along way.
