    2. I would first check with church records. If you know their faith, and area from where they lived, check the secretary of that parish, then I would ask the Bucks County Historical Society to do a search for you, they were very helpful to me in my quest. Hope this helps Martin Shipe -------------- Original message -------------- From: pabucks-request@rootsweb.com

    1. [PABUCKS] George, Griffith and Lewis Familes in PA to Loudoun County, Virginia
    2. marianne dillow
    3. I am still working on and trying to find out the lineage of my oldest grandparents William Lewis, SR who married Jane Griffith in 1740 at the First Presbyterian church in Philadelphia. I am trying to find out who their parents and siblings are. They are associated with the George family. I am sending this to several lists due to different counties being named in PA hoping someone on these lists might be able to add to these families. They moved to Loudoun County, Virginia and became part of the New Valley Baptist Church. I have some records for others to look over in Loudoun County where my family was associated with the George family. The associations in Loudoun going back to Philadelphia fascinate me plus I am trying to figure those associations out. I have the following on the GEORGE family I am seeking knowledge on with my other family lines: William George married to Eleanor unknown. They died Great Valley Baptist Church, Devon, Chester Co., PA. Their son: Thomas George born ca 1713 Upper Merion, Philadelphia Co., PA Died 1790 Loudoun Co., VA married Margaret Bye born 19 Sep 1715 Bucks Co., PA daughter of John Bye and Sarah Pearson. Their son: Wiilliam George born Upper Merion, Philadelphia Co., PA died in Lee County, VA. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are some records: I received William Jones will in Loudoun in 1771 from the Loudoun courthouse. It didn't name his wife, names sons Joshua and James Jones, daughter Mary Griffith, ... land containing 1 1/2 acres Baptist Meeting ground....joining this plantation to Joseph Thomas. , Minister, and William Lewis and Thomas George, Elders of Meeting...congregation... Names William Lewis and John Griffith where he sold land to them... Witnesses Josias. Clapham, William Lewis, Sarah Griffiith. Inventory gave the list sold but not to whom... Witnessed by JosIas Clapham, BENJ. JOHN, James Sanders ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I also sent off at Loudoun for two Griffith records I received tday..... Samuel Moberly to William Griffith... 22 Apr 1769 William Griffith Lease of Samuel Awbrey... 150 acres... on Potomac River...dated 20 July 1758. Wit: Josias Clapham, Richard Roach, and Henry Brown (who married into my Harris line in Loudoun)... Signed by Samuel Moberly The second Griffith record I received to day is: 2 Oct 1780... Received of Jonathan Myers and John Williams Ex to my father William Griffith.....for her legacy from my father's estate.. signed by Martha Griffith... Wit: Joshua Danniel. These are other Loudoun records: Bk:Pg: G:250 Date: 6 Apr 1770 RcCt: 9 Apr 1770 William JONES & wife Mary to Thomas GEORGE. Bargain and sale of 519ac where GEORGE now lives adj Frederick WYSELL, Thomas AWBREY. Wit: William GEORGE, John STEERE, Frederick WISEL. Bill of sale of farm and household items. Wit: Thomas WARMAN, John HOUGH Jr. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jane GRIFFITH, dau of John and --, born 18 9thmo 1710 - Lower Merion Friends at Lower Merion Township. .... I think this is Montgomery Co., PA formed from Philadelphia Co., Pa. Thomas GEORGE born 1740, parent George GEORGE and Elizabeth (LEWIS) GEORGE, same church. George and Elizabeth also had these other children in records at Friends Lower Merion: Enoch b 7 7mo 1731 Ann b 1734 Isaac b 241mo 1736 David b 1738 Edward b 1745 Amos b 1747 At Gwynedd Friends Monthly Meeting, this is the earliest Elizabeth LEWIS in the area: Elizabeth LEWIS, born 7 1mo 1711, parents George and Jane. They seem to be Quaker, and the Swarthmore College has big collection of Quaker records. I don't have a link to their site, but google may show it. If anyone on these PA lists have anything to add to these associations I would love to hear from you as I have proven some other if my family lines by taking the association approach to it. 3. Wlliam Lewis SR. married Jane Griffith in Philadelphia Co., Pa in 1740 at the First Presbyterian Church.. I believe the Griffith family most likely lived in other counties in PA but I don't know which one before they moved to Loudoun Co., Va. Therefore I am sending this query to several lists. So, pardon me please with my inexperience in these counties. These records in Loudoun Co., Va with the people John Griffith was associated are the records I have to work with to prove my Griffith line. I have sent off for the William Jones 1771 will at the Loudoun Co., Va courthouse. I beleve his son Joshua Jones married Hannah Todhunter. There was a John Todhunter in Loudoun. In the tithables in Loudoun Co., Va from 1773-1780 John, William, David, and Thomas Griffiith was listed. Also a Richard Griffin. This is an important record: In Loudoun Co., VA there was a William Jones who left a will in 1771. His wife was not named but the will names a son Joshua Jones, a daughter married a Griffith, the executor was Jane Lewis and the witnesses were William Lewis and Sarah Griffith. It mentioned land at the New Valley Baptist Church in Loudoun County, VA. This William Lewis, SR. is the one I think married Jane Griffith in Philadelphia in 1740 and is my family. Our William Lewis, SR was an elder in that church in Loudoun Co., Va. This is the will I have ordered from the Loudoun Co., Va. courthouse. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Deed Records in Loudoun Co., Va: Bk:Pg: E:322, 324 Date: 17 Nov 1766 RcCt: 13 Apr 1767 Thomas MIDDLETON Jr & wife Ann of Ldn to John GRIFFITH of Pa. It mentioned land at the New Valley Baptist Church in Loudoun County, VA. This William Lewis, SR. is the one I think married Jane Griffith in Philadelphia in 1740 and is my family. William Lewis JR. married Mary John daughter of Thomas John JR. and wife Martha unknown, (My grandparents). It is thought that Thomas John, JR. and Thomas John, SR. were father and son but not totally proven although they were very close. Thomas John SR came from Cecil Co., MD. This Jones family names Joshua Jones and I'm not sure but I think this group was in Bucks Co., PA. before removing to Virginia. I also have another record naming John Todhunter in Loudoun county associated with my family. Marianne Dillow

    3. On my previous posting I forgot to mention that there is a record on my Thomas John family that might play into my query below: Martha John, widow of Thomas John, dec'd, and Benjamin John and wife Lydia of Loudoun Co., VA to Joseph Coleman of Loudoun Lease/release of 141 acres in Shelburne Parish adj Robert Popkins. The witnesses were Thomas George, John Steere and JOHN TODHUNTER. There is also a Thomas John, Sr that died in Loudoun Co., Va with his wife Mary unknown. It isn't known if Thomas John JR. and Thomas John SR are father and son are not but my William Lewis, JR married Martha John listed here in this record and is the daughter of Thomas John, Jr. I think William Lewis, Jr is the son of William Lewis, Sr. that married Jane Griffith in Philadelphia in 1740 but need more proof. That was yt original query but thought this extra info might help in my search. Thanks a lot, This still goes to the posting below and those named.
