RICHWELL -- I am looking for either a burying ground or a church probably in Bucks Co but maybe Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, or Montgomery that went by the name Richwell. I have looked extensively through Rev Frederick Waage's pastoral notes (Old/New Goshenhoppen, Trumbauersville, Richlandtown/Flatland) which is a compilation of the marriages and burials he performed during his career (approx 1830-1870)and for the burials he gives the name of the church. But many of these Churches are indicated by their local name, e.g. Flatland for St John's, Richlandtown, Trumbauers for Christ Lutheran, Trumbauersville, etc.) I am interested in a Johs Grohmann burial April 1862 listed as being performed at Richwell. I do not think this is Richlandtown St John's because as I mentioned Rev Waage refers to that as Flatland. Could Richwell be Rich Hill or maybe Ridge Valley, Argus. Another site he refers to is Gehman's. I would be most appreciative of being set straight on the locations of "Richwell" and "Gehmans"

RootsWeb accepts only plain text mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'', and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists. You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail reader, or don't use any attachments. See http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, so we find it's best just to use plain text. -- The RootsWeb staff --part1_110.23ce4c4.287f3010_boundary--

They are called Zouave units because of the flamboyant uniforms they wore. Very colorful jackets and balloon pants, copied after French military uniforms, but many with very individual styles. Normally a unit had to distinguish themselves in battle before being allowed to wear a Zouave uniform. The "Fighting Irishmen" Pennsylvania 69th Volunteer Infantry, from Philadelphia, Company C (IIRC) was one such unit that were Zouaves. Opinions varied as to whether these uniforms were more or less comfortable than the regular issue. For your ancestor's military records, you need to find out the number of the Regiment, and the Company letter. There were also different Regiments based on whether they were Infantry, Cavalry or Artillery. You can find your ancestor listed from Pennsylvania in a series of volumes (20 volumes IIRC) called "Bates" found in larger libraries, (Philadelphia's main Free Library for example) and some historical societies. Bates gives dates of service and units that each "Volunteer" served in. (Starting in 1863, "volunteers" were drafted too. My ggranddad, with a wife, 3 sons and a butcher business, was one of those.) You can learn more about Zouave units from several Civil War books found at bookstores or in your local library. Jim Lawrence (from Parkland, Pa.) I am afraid I do not have any helpful information. Since I posted the original message regarding the Mason family of Bucks County, PA, I have found the parents of Charles Mason (b.1832) to be Issac Mason and Hannah Smith. On census they list their birthplace as PA, but I can find no evidence of them in Bucks County before 1840. Issac and Hannah's children include my gg grandfather, Charles, Emily (b. 1834) and Anne (b. 1836). According to the ages Isaac listed on the census, he was born about 1808. I have found an Issac Mason in Philadelphia that matches the time period, but have no conclusive evidence that they are one and the same. Good luck with your search.
Listers, I believe that someone was searching the Vansant surname but not sure who...Anyway, if you are interested in Charles Vansant, Dr. Eugene Vansant, a well-to-do physician and Louise Vansant, check out the story in the August 2001 issue of Reader's Digest titled JAWS: The Prequel by Michael Capuzzo (Extracts from his book "Close to Shore") Even if your not interested in the surname, read the story, pretty interesting! Does anybody have any information about the 213th Infantry Volunteers, Company J during the Civil War. My great-grandfather was attached to that unit. His post office address was Bunker Hill, later changed to Rich Hill. I believe he joined the unit in Frandford, Pa. Would appreciate any information surrounding this. My great-grandfather's name was George Shearer, and there are no deviations from the spelling of Shearer. Thank you. Don Shearer
I am seeking information on Orlando Lewis Landis and his wife Bessie Idella Kelly and their family. Do you have them in your Landis database? I am researching this line for my aunt. Thanks, Mark
Does anyone out there know if Walter Wharton had any children? If so, what were their names and any dates known? He was the surveyor of the west of the Delaware in 1671. He married himself to Mary Printz daughter of Gov. Printz. I Have the same question about the second Richard Wharton. Who where his children and any dates if known? I have the first Richard Wharton's children names and births. Also , is Anne Hollingsworth Wharton's book considered law about the John Wharton's? Is there a mix-up in it somewhere?
Does anyone have any information regarding this couple: Frederick Sechrist b. 1754 d. about 1834 m. Catherine Hammock Father of Frederick was Henry b. about 1730 Lancaster, PA d. about 1799 Thanks Debbie Debbjennings@aol.com "Following the footprints through time" http://www.angelfire.com/in3/longagoandfaraway/index.html
Phillip Sechrist was born in 1790.He was either born in NC or in Pa and his parents migrated to NC by 1815. He married Mary SULLIVAN on June 10 1815 in Rowan county NC. They migrated later to Morgan county IN. The spelling of the surname was changed from SECHRIST to SECREST about 1850. Although he seems to have the same place of origin and also migrated to the same place in Indiana as the other lines of Secrest in Rowan county NC, I cannot seem to make a connection to him through these lines. He is not listed as a son of any of them. Recently, someone made a post concerning a John Sechrist born in 1810 with a son named John Andrew. Both of these names are prevalent in Phillip's children and his grandchildren. Can anyone help on this? Debbie Debbjennings@aol.com "Following the footprints through time" http://www.angelfire.com/in3/longagoandfaraway/index.html
Nathaniel was not the father of these children. It is clearly William as noted in Quaker Marriage certificate of John to Mary Abrell. I have a photocopy of letter sent to Pleasant who identifies William and Samuel as her siblings. I would be happy to exchange data. Mena
