As far as I know, no one of my line made it into Georgia. I have records of the line in Wilkes County and Surry County, NC and in Russell and Washington Counties in Virginia prior to moving to Kentucky around 1820. The Christian names you list are not familiar names in my line. Some of my kin do, however, believe that our line came down the river valleys to the South from Pennsylvania. This remains a possibility. Sorry I can't be of more help. Larry

    1. [PABUCKS-L] "Low Dutch in Bucks Co"
    2. John Van Buskirk
    3. Hi While my interest in Bucks co is mainly with my maternal side (The Quakers) my paternal side Van Buskirk has a Bucks connection, not my direct line. This is all from the Van Buskirk Genealogy book by Irene English Shoemaker published 1990 after her death by her son Robert W Shoemaker Jr 1402 Maryland Ave, Anderson, Indiana 46011 This is in her direct line and over 600 pages of her book discuss the Pennsylvania lines The family story begins with a Lourens Andreissen arriving in Manhattan 1654 marrying 1658 Jannetje Jans and having 4 sons, and adopting the name Van Buskirk here. The eldest son Andries has the first contact with Pennsylvania.(page 14) in 1713 he purchased 1150 acres of land in Bucks Co. Nothing indicates that he ever left Bergen Co, NJ. But he deeded parcels to his sons Joost and Johannes. for Joost (p23) married 1718 settled on 186 acres of the land purchased by his father in Philadelphia / Montgomery co Pa in the Manor of Moreland (later Johannes got a separate 186 acres) That tract was purchased 1684 by Nicholas Moore of London and named for him This is the key for this message: local history tells us there was a movement of many thousands of Dutch from New York to Penna about 1711 partly due to bad treatment there, and enticed by land bargains there. in this way hundreds of Hollanders came to settle in the lower portikon of Bucks Co and adjacent Philadelphia co. Joosts immediate neighbors were all Dutch from New York. I'll stop quote here. I will say that some of my branch of Van Buskirks which went to upstate New York often encounter cousins who came from Pennsylvania up to the New York Southern tier. They have the story that 3 brothers came directly from "The Old Country" to Bucks co--because they still spoke Dutch. They were from the New York group, that resisted English takeover and still retained the Dutch language in the 3d and 4 th generations in America. I hope this sheds light on the previous questions. Mrs Shoemaker spends over 600 pages on these two brothers families. I can look up specific questions. this is her research, not mine. My input in her book is at page 853 in the line of Laurens, brother of above Andries. John

Anybody else out there connected to the Schmidt family of the Tohicken Church? I think this is the Lutheran rather than Reform Congregation, since the church housed both, but I may be mistaken. - Heather
