    1. [PABUCKS-L] Re: John B. Vansant, sea captain of PA and NJ
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Vansant, Vanzant, Vinzant, Venzant, Vanzandt Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DaB.2ACE/851.939.1 Message Board Post: I'm also researching Capt. John. I'm trying to learn as much as possible about his first marriage and any children he may have had with that wife, who I believe was Polly Bowen. Linda says that Capt. John had a child Joel Vansant born 1776 and that "Polly may have died because John left PA after Joel was born and moved to NJ. It is said John B. originally came from Middlesex Co. before moving to Bucks." I looking for the parents of four siblings born between 1752 and 1766 who moved to KY from PA about 1789. Two of them mention being from Bucks Co. and one mentions being born in Philadephia (Co. or City?). What is interesting is that the three boys (John, James, and George) appear suddenly about 1775 or 1776 in Bedford Co., PA--without parents. They entered Rev. War service there and served together for many years. There was also a Peter Vansant in the same unit who might have been a fourth brother or a first cousin. After the War, the three brothers lived together in Huntingdon Co., PA (formed from Bedford Co.) About 1789, two brothers (John and James) moved to KY with at least seven other Vansant family members--including John's sister Susan, John's daughters Nancy and Elizabeth and an older adult named Mary Vansant who had three young girls with her. My theory is that the four siblings might all be children of Capt. John and Polly Bowen. I'd particularly like to know if they got married before 1752 when John said he was born.

    1. Re: [PABUCKS-L] Cancel
    2. Morrow
    3. Choosing to cancel is a personal decision. Since the request appeared during an extended discussion of gatewayed messages, I'll offer my own perspective of those: I'm glad to have the gatewayed messages. I joined the Bucks County list in hopes of learning about my Bucks County ancestry. My great-great-great grandparents (Charles Morrow and Rachel Morton) apparently married in Bucks County in roughly 1802/3. Several of their children were born there, possibly including my great-great-grandfather, Marshall Morrow (in 1813). Charles was drafted for War of 1812 service from Bridgepoint, near Doylestown. About 1816/7, the family moved on to eastern Ohio. In about three years on this list, I've learned nothing new about my family through it. That's discouraging. Now that those posting to the Bucks County query board are also passed through this mailing list, there has been an increase in mail -- but this list remains far less active than the major lists to which I belong. The increased mail means we have more access to others with Bucks county connections and improves the chances of finding information of value in my own research. Of course, it also increases the messages that add nothing to my research. But they're easy to delete, too. The increased potential for help is a worthy benefit for the low price of deleting a few more messages. As to the cancellation, announcing your decision to the list is pointless. All rootsweb lists use the same subscribe and unsubscribe conventions, which are not served by sending a message to the list you wish to join or leave. Type just the single word "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" (without the quote marks) in the subject line and on the first line of the message area. Do not type anything else in the message area; if you use a signature file, you should shut it off for this message. For individual messages: xxx-L-request@rootsweb.com (for example PABUCKS-L-request@rootsweb.com) For digest format, where messages are grouped into one e-mail: xxx-D-request@rootsweb.com (for example PABUCKS-D-request@rootsweb.com) The master page for rootsweb lists, showing the full range available is: http://lists.rootsweb.com/ Duncan Morrow ----- Original Message ----- From: <LHammer98@aol.com> To: <PABUCKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 19, 2001 9:44 AM Subject: [PABUCKS-L] Cancel > Cancel

    3. Since there seems to be an issue with the gatewayed message. The first in the year or so the messages have been gatewayed to the list. I'm going to put it to a vote as to whether we keep them or not. PLEASE DO NOT SENT TO THE LIST YOUR VOTE. This is going to generate a lot of mail with close to three hundred subscriber. Talk about a lot of mail that would really cause some unhappy people. True be told I really don't need the extra mail myself but just sent your response to me at judjack@rocketmail.com. We will end the voting on Saturday morning the 22nd. Then go with what the majority wants. If it is decided to stop them we will and if it is decided to keep them we will. 3. I am a listowner of another list and I don't know how to disconnect the gateway to the Boards from the Lists. It may not be an option. All the lists are now gatewayed automatically. I'm sure the listowner of this list is trying to find out just how to disconnect. One way to look at it though is that you are getting a link to a message from someone who is probably not on this list and that opens up new avenues of connecting to someone researching the same family. As to unsubscribing, the folks who want to and who keep posting messages to the list, email PABUCKS-L-request@rootsweb.com with only the word unsubscribe in the body of the email. You will then be automatically unsubbed by the RootsWeb servers. Sending a message to the list with the word cancel, etc. in the body isn't going to do anything. ===== Kathi Jones-Hudson mdcat.geo@yahoo.com Truly Genealogy Addicted http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/4395 Kat's Kreations: PSP Tubes and Snowglobes http://www.fortunecity.com/westwood/cut/567/index.html __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? Supposedly land was next to that owned by William Penn. George and Mercy parented 15 children, 8 of whom survived to adulthood. Their oldest boy, J. Elias Brown, b 1681 was the father of John J Brown Sr., b about 1710. John Sr. was the father of John J. Brown Jr. Sr. moved to Lewis Co. (W)VA about 1756 and then to Lewis Co. about 1783. John Jr., b about 1764 was the father of THomas Brown, b 1793 in Lewis Co. Thomas was the father of William Harrison Brown, b 1830, Lewis Co. William was the father of John Haze Brown, b 1879 in Salem WV. John was my grandfather. Do you have any connection! s to these? Thank you Fred from MN
