Who was asking about Hayes?? I've lost your e-mail: Here are a couple of interesting bits I found today: >From the Bucks County Intelligencer, 28 Jun 1876: Mrs. Hayes is a most attractive and loveable woman. Like her husband, she is wholly unaffected, and in manner has all the natural and spontaneous gayety of a little girl. She is the life and soul of every party, for her humor and cheerfulness never desert her, and her popularity is very great in this portion of the State. For the mother of so many children (five living and three dead), she looks singularly youthful in features. She has bright brown eyes, a regular nose, fair skin and dark hair which she dresses in the style of a quarter century ago. [No mention of her first name or husband's name; it could even have been Mrs. Rutherford B. Hayes, who was running for President at the time, but it did say "this portion of the State".] >From the Bucks County Intelligencer, 8 Jul 1876: It was not the fault of the horse attached to the butcher wagon of William Hayes which was the cause of his running away out State street on last Wednesday, and in a whirl of the vehicle around Knight's corner spilling out his owner and a lad named Frank Livezey, both of hom were somewhat bruised on striking ground. The maddened animal dashed down Clinton street until stopped at Flack's shop, and by the breaking of a swingletree a part of it was forced into his thigh, cutting a deep gash. >From the Bucks County Intelligencer, 12 Jul 1876: Many who are named Hays now put in an "e". It looks better, and then they can write it with ease.
Have met a brick wall in finding this family. Susan Johnson (born c. 1830) married .......Harden. She had children Levi, George, Milton and Emma (m. Fleming), Rebecca (m. Huntsman), and Mary (m. Cardwell). Susan was deceased by 1905. The Johnson family was from Hilltown (?) area as that is where my grgrandfather Samuel M. Johnson was supposedly born in 1828. Susan is his sister. Do any of these names fit into any of your lines? Would love to hear from you if this is the case. IM SEEKING INFORMATION ON CAPTAIN JACOB POSTEN WHO SEVERED IN REV. WAR AND HIS PARENTS WIFE AND CHILDREN. THANK YOU SHIRLEY
THIS WOULD BE A GREAT SERVICE! I thank you!! I had lots of family removing from Bucks county in the 1870's to other states. I do hope you will run across some of them in this endeavor. If anyone finds mention of William Brian/Bryant Smith, (son of Ezra and Deborah ) leaving to live in Kansas in 1872 I would love to have information. He went west first in 1870 but didnt leave home for good until 1872. I have a diary of sorts he kept of this travel time. I have typed the information but need to get it typed into the computer so I can share it. I am also interested if the paper published only Bucks county area information or did it sometimes include bordering areas, such as Horsham township of Montgomery county. Our paper covered a very large area in the early 1870 1880s in Kansas. THANKS! Sue Ellen

Dear Fellow Researchers: During the course of researching, I discovered that every April 1st the Bucks County Intelligencer printed the "Removals and Changes" of everyone in the County that they knew about over the course of the last year. I've always felt that these lists, combined with other things like Census records, would undoubtedly be invaluable for genealogists. I have copied the entire list for April 1, 1876. As a service to my fellow family searchers, I will transcribe a town or two a night over the course of the next week or so. If anyone wants to load it up to the website, you have my permission. I just hope that at least one of you will find someone in the list. That will make it all worthwhile. 8:o)
