Would be wonderful if there were some Nelson family members listed. Thanks, Karen Nelson Hangsleben -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Maggie Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2007 2:51 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [PABUCKS] Book: Pennsylvania Births Bucks County 1682-1800 Hello all, I just bought this terrific book that was published in 1993 by John T Humphrey. It has 100's of surnames. It lists the infant, their date of birth or baptism date, and their parents names. Some of the Mother's have the maiden name as well. This book was compiled from 22 different church records. If there are any names you would like me to look up in the book, be it a few individuals, or all for specific surnames, just let me know....either through the pabucks list, or you can email me direct at [email protected] Maggie Kistner ____________________________________________________________________________ ________ Bored stiff? Could you please lookup the following: Helena or Lena Bennett born about 1727 Henry McKinstry born abt 1750 Thank you very much for your time, it's greatly appreciated. Gail
Hi all, I received this advice from a member, and so therefore I am asking that anyone who would like me to look something up for them, PLEASE email me directly. [email protected] Also, if you already submitted a request to the list, and not to me, please resubmit your request to my email. I want nothing more than to help people in their research, but I also do not want to break any copyright laws! Thanks everyone! Maggie Maggie: It's very generous of you to be willing to do lookups in the Humphrey book. However, the other person who posted to the list is correct that techncially speaking you are a bit in violation of Humphrey's copyright in posting your responses to a public list. With a current publication date of 1993 it will be a very long time before this book is in public domain. Fair Use provisions of the Copyright Law permit a small amount of copying for 'research purposes' without consent of the author, however when doing multiple lookups and responses online you go beyond Fair Use and tred in dangerous waters. You should write to the PABUCKS list again and tell everyone to contact you privately off-list if they are interested in a lookup and should restrict your answers directly to that person. You're leaving yourself open to a civil action (you and you alone not Rootsweb which takes no responsibility for your postings). If it were me I'd request the Help Desk to remove any responses from the List archives. Again I think it's great of you to offer to do lookups since doing so has probably flooded your email inbox. I just thought you probably didn't know that it's copyright infringement and you could be putting yourself in an awkward position. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a PS3 game guru. Hi That book is a find!!! That would be a good one to scan for the Bucks County site!!! What a great resource!!! Several of my Slack ancestors and close relatives were born in Bucks Co. My direct ancestor John Slack, Jr., was born in 1754, Revolutionary War vet. His cousin, James Henry Slack, is listed in the Bucks County History by Davis as, at age 20, son of Abraham Slack, being in the boat with Gen. George Washington while crossing the Delaware. Most of the Slacks lived in Lower Makefield Township, some in Upper Makefield Township and in Newtown Township, some are buried in the old Newtown Presbyterian churchyard. I would appreciate any Slack info, and thanks for the offer!!!! cheers Dave in Seattle
Marion, Yes, I would be interested in what you found as I am aware of the possibility that I tie into Daniel Morgan, the famous General. Thank you. Ken Schroeder 937 French Drive Mundelein, IL 60060
Dear Maggie: Thank you for your offer. My brick wall is Adam Middelton (not Middleton--MiddLEton, although I have to look up and take into consideration both spellings for so many error exist in the records 'cause "everyone knows how to spell Middleton", not) Adam Middelton born in 1734 we think in Burlington Co New Jersey) married Ester Fulton in Pennsylvania. Their children, all believed to be born in Buck County, Pa.: Margaret, Jane, David, Adam, Sarah, Robert, William, James. Margaret stayed in Pa and married. I don't know about Sarah. Jane died and another Jane was born or who she married. Adam and Hester and their other children moved about 1788-1790 to Berkeley County Va (now West Va) From there I have them all "pegged". Any help greatly appreciated. Mary Jo

Maggie, thank you for checking the surname Shewell. Kathy
Hi Dave - and other listmembers, Humphrey's books are wonderful resources but, as fairly recent publications, they are all still protected by copyright, so I don't believe that scanning and posting online are legal options. Maggie's book about Bucks County births is likely from the 13-or14-volume set of Pennsylvania Births that lists more than 170,000 recorded births in eleven eastern Pennsylvania counties. I just checked online and this set is for sale by Pennsylvania Genealogy Books (http://www.pagenealogybooks.com/) -prices vary from $18.50 (Delaware Co) to $39 (Montgomery Co), which seem very reasonable to me - and other bookstores may also carry them, either as new or used books. Various places also sell this material in CD format. (e.g. BIRTH INDEX: SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, 1680-1800. Records of approximately 476,000 individuals born before 1800; compiled by John T. Humphrey from church and pastoral records; originally published as a 13-volume set. -Family Archives CD196 $39.99 - http://www.familyhistoryland.com/cds0-280.htm) Humphrey has also authored some other excellent genealogy references: for example, a two-volume family history titled Early Families of Northampton County, Pennsylvania; Pennsylvania Gravestones, Northampton County; and Understanding and Using Baptismal Records, etc. And, if you Google his name (hint: put his full name, "John T. Humphrey", in quotation marks in the search box, you will get a more precise set of results) -- you'll find some info of his published online. For example, there's a great article written by him available online at http://genealogy.about.com/library/authors/blbio-humphrey.htm. His very-readable article "Records Used to Tell the Story of Life in Mid-Eighteenth Century Pennsylvania is an interesting account of arrival and early life in PA. This article "discusses a variety of record sources which help to document life in Pennsylvania in the 1700s including county tax lists, diaries and letters, road petitions, business ledgers, church records, U.S. Direct "Window" Tax of 1798, U.S. Census of 1790, deeds and estate inventories. A complete bibliography is included." Some of his presentations at various genealogy conferences are also available as audiotapes from Audiotapes.com (http://www.audiotapes.com/author.asp?author='Humphrey'), and as articles in genealogy journals which you can purchase from various sources - or find in various libraries. I have no connection to any of these vendors, but hope that this info helps people access some of the great resources Humphrey has published. Kaye Steward
