    1. [PABRADFO] Misinformation on "Official" Documents
    2. Hi All, I am glad this subject has been introduced on the Tri-County mail list. I have seen any number of "Official" documents with wrong information. My own aunt's birth certificate has the wrong surname for her mother. Doctor's made mistakes then, too and may not have filled out the paperwork when the child was delivered and tried to remember it later. A woman in our neighborhood (the one I grew up in and on which my research centers) who is now long gone, but whom I knew all my life was Charlotte Updyke. In the birth records at the court house, a child was born to her parents on the same date as she but with a completely different first and middle name. Either the parents changed their name or the doctor who recorded it got it all wrong, maybe switched with some other child he delivered that year (They submitted their listings annually). The most common error on the death certificates was cause of death. This was a function of limited medical knowledge at the time. A friend of mine found the death certificate of my elusive ancestors Amanda (maybe Sutton) who married Philip Tice. Her parents are not listed on it meaning that even her children, who provided information for the death certificate, did not know the names of their own grandparents. I have seen many cases of the wrong cemetery listed, perhaps because that was not fully determined at the time the doctor did the death certificate. Take nothing for granted even on "official records." Read my Warnings and Disclaimers page on the site which is about the importance of the researchers task in confirming the accuracy of any sources. Also, there is a test version of a frames version of the site. You can reach it by clicking on Enki's (little dog) face on the main page (Front Door) of < A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-County Genealogy Site of Joyce M. Tice</A> The advantages to it are that it gives me the opportunity to keep links to the essential sections and resources of the site visible at all times on all pages. The disadvantage is that it further reduces the size of the main window. I have a large high resolution screen, but for some users it may have disadvantageous effect. I welcome feedback on that design at JoyceTice@aol.com Joyce M. Tice
