They will visit the public libraries in Towanda and Wyalusing, both started with funds donated by Frank Welles. Born in Athens, PA in 1854, Francis R. Welles grew up in Towanda, graduated from the U. of Rochester and worked for Western Electric, serving mainly in France and Belgium, where he opened his first telephone factory in Europe in 1879. Anna Thomas, daughter of Thomas Thomas, Pastor of the Presbyterian Churches in Rushville and Stevensville (PA), was a dear friend of Frank's sister Emma and scandalized the Victorian folks of Bradford County by sailing with Emma and her mother to Antwerp, Belgium, where she promptly married Frank Welles. The marriage led to a long and rich relationship, with residence in France and retirement in California, producing two daughters and two sons,<snip>.
