Hi Everyone, I am transcribing the tax records for Smithfield Twp. for 1818, 1819 and 1820. In order to check spellings, I also printed the census for 1820. I find a LOT of people on one but not on the other in 1820. Any ideas why? I found a lot of spellings wrong on the census, and certainly understand why since I have read that microfilm myself and the writing leaves a LOT to be desired. The writing on the tax records were pretty good until 1820, but that year there were a lot of very hard to read names, and I have some question marks on spellings of some of the names. If you want to know what year your ancestors actually came to a township, this is a very good reference, and is pretty close to alphebetic order. In some cases, it also tells who they bought land from, or sold it to. I will send these three years to Joyce as soon as she returns from vacation. Pat Raymond
