Many of the lumber farmers, loggers and other people related to the lumber industry moved to Wisconsin as the forests of Tioga Co. and surrounding counties were depleted. Additionally, many of these same people moved on to Oregon and Washington State later, for the same reason. Some of the people returned to Tioga County and surrounding counties after they had saved up a nest egg. My source on is from "Rafting Days in Pennsylvania", written by my great grandfather, John C. French. Hope this helps. Marion Scherer
