    3. Can anyone tell me how immigrants were recorded, when they arrived in the colonies between 1620 and 1820. Did they become citizens just by the fact that they got here?     3. 30th November, 1782, Independence of the United States acknowledged by Great Britian. 14th December, 1782, Charleston, S. C., evacuated by the British. 3rd September, 1783, Treaty of Paris concluded. 26th November, 1783, British troops withdrawn from N. Y. They wouldn't have become citizens before the War was over:-). Act of March 26, 1790 (1 Statutes-at-Large 103) The first federal activity in an area previously under the control of the individual states, this act established a uniform rule for naturalization by setting the residence requirement at two years.
