    3. I do have a couple Charles Campbells of Chemung County, although neither seem to be those asked about. Telling about them may give background on one Chemung Campbell family's origins. Judson Campbell Sr 1790 CT died 10 Jun 1850 up at Veteran and was enumerated with the family anyway because he'd been present on 1 June. 1850 U.S. Census New York Chemung Veteran Roll: M432_486 Page: 104 19 Sep 1850 CAMPBELL Abagail 53 CT Lorinda 25, Mary 20, Elvira 18, Roana 17, John 12, Judson 7, all b NY Judson 59 carpenter CT By childrens' birth dates/places Judson came from Kent, Litchfield Co CT to Veteran by 1830 but possibly by 1825. My ged is online free at ancestry.com if you want to see all I have on this family. OK. Judson Jr has a son Charles born about 1880. John also named a son Charles 1875 but that one was born Tama Co, IA. There is a married Charles at Veteran on 1850 census, born about 1823 CT who could likely be another son of Judson Sr's. I picked up these Campbells because their eldest that I know of, Elizabeth/Betsy was born May 1820 CT and married Aaron McKinney. I mainly research McKinney and Hill surnames there in Chemung County. Before 1836 you need to be looking in Tioga Co, NY and get to know what places will be Chemung - not that people didn't wander. Early on, folks at Catherine, Cayuta, and Erin were basically the same folks, often related at least, as at Veteran although Catherine and Cayuta will get cut off and be part of Schuyler Co - and I see a Charles there at Cayuta on 1840 census index. Can't say it's so of everyone, but my folks out in those areas later gravitated toward "town" at Horseheads for the greater part. From 1850 onward you will see more immigration from outside the US to Chemung. > Date: Fri, 22 Oct 2004 22:07:01 EDT > From: Joycelr@aol.com > Subject: Re: info on any Charles Campbell > > I've got Charles Campbell on my tree/in my database.
