Hello One of my ancestors had large parcels of property in Tioga County in the early 1800's even though they were of modest means. Is anyone aware of any Land Grants available about that time...perhaps in an interest to encourage settlements, etc. I ask this knowing that there were boundary disputes between New York and Vermont in the late 1700's after the Revolutionary War when the Vermont Sufferers were awarded land to settle such disputes. Alternatively, in the early 1800's, were Developers buying up large tracts of land for the resources (timber, coal, etc) and making arrangements with settlers to clear the land in return for ownership?
