Hello everyone, I'd like to start by thanking everyone for their wonderful and informative responses to my last posting about Mary and Daggett Mills. I'm looking forward to hearing again from those folks that said they had more information. I'd like to share in one place some things I've found and hopefully clear some information widely spread that is either incorrect, missing and / or not in the William Lain and Keziah Mather book that's highly referenced for this family. I hope this is OK to do as it's a lot of information, the place to do it and apologize in advance if not. David Bennett and Mary R. Sawyer were married 3 Jul 1851 Calhoun Co. Michigan (Wedding certificate will hopefully be obtained in the morning and a copy donated to the site if wanted) Their eldest 3 children (1)Mary Jane, (2)Margaret Ann and (3)Hannah M. were all born in Albion, Calhoun Co. Michigan. (Hope to have church records soon to fully verify this.) (4)William Henry Bennett was born 26 Mar 1857 in Elmira, Chemung Co. NY. Found a Jacob and Myra Bennett in adjoining plots buried in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, Chemung Co. NY on Joyce's site.) J. Kelsey Jones had asked me why David and Mary Bennett came back to the area. According to our family 'knowledge' he was a Baptist Minister or lay minister (Evangelist?) and traveled a lot. A David and Mary R. Bennett are listed in Jackson Twp. Tioga Co. PA MEMBERS IN FULL CONNECTION – OFFICIAL LIST – 1868/96 FROM RECORDS IN THE SAFE AT JACKSON CENTER U. M. CHURCH on Joyce's site so not sure if ever was Baptist or if changed faith. Another web site (Louise Johns Neu's Genealogy Page) shows them as buried "Methodist Church, Webb Mills, Chemung County, New York" Would live to know other family members knowledge of him being some type of minister. When Mary passed away in 1869 David married Elizabeth Corwin in November 4th of that year. (Would like to know where married) They are then found: 1870 Federal Census Records for Chemung County NY Town of Big Flats Pg 22 June 28 1870 188 188 Bennett David 47 M W Farm Laborer 500 300 NY Elizabeth 47 F W Keephouse NY Darwin W. 7 M W NY Sherman 6 M W NY Jacob M 3 M W Penn'a David's younger brother Thomas is living in household (187/ 187 )previous to him on Census. I'd like to know where they are. Ami (Ammi) H. Sawyer information not on Joyce's site or in one place that I've found - 1860 Census Albion Calhoun Co. Mi family #862/846 Pg 113 Ami H. His brother Samuel went to Michigan before him and there are other of Ami's relatives buried in this cemetery and surrounding area. I will have all the information on all soon as my sister still lives in Calhoun Co. Michigan and will forward on to anyone that would like the Sawyer information. There is a Sawyer family that owns a sawmill in Climax, Kalamazoo Co Mi and she thinks they are related and is still researching. Ami would have went to Michigan after Oct. 29, 1950 when Enumerated in Wells Twp. 1850 Census and before July 3 1851 when David Bennett and Mary R. Sawyer were married there. I am still trying to find Ami H. Sawyer in New York to determine where Mary R.and Jane A. were born. If anyone has this information I'd love to know it. Does anyone possibly have the burial information from the Webb Mill Cemetery where Mary and David are buried? Hope this is the right place to put all this information but I really wanted to share it in one place since many of David and Mary's children raised families in the Tri-Counties area. I've never seen mention of the above information in one place on the Internet or some of it even mentioned at all. Any corrections, discrepancies, questions, added information, advice, and /or requests for copies of verification welcome. Darla PS- I'm in the process of transcribing several letters from various people in the area to my grandparents that contain a lot of information on the above family. Would like to know the proper way to submit them to the site along with pictures of various people. I also don't know what 'county' they would go under since David and Mary seemed to live in various townships in the area. Again, thanks for all the help.
