In late 1896 Mr.Spaulding a chicago lumberman originally from the valley, donated money to build a museum and library on the land across from the Old Academy in Athens. The Spauldings' son had died shortly before and the building was to be a memorial. This photograph (the elder Mr. Spaulding) was taken in 1870 at the famous Brady studio in New York. marge
