Hi All, I have just added the 1873 diary of Daniel Burton of Rutland to the site. The Diary Collection can be accessed from Box 31B of the Online Research Library of Tri- Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice Daniel made his living carving out axe handles and pick handles and marketing them throughout the Tri-County area. He traveled by train regularly to deliver his product, frequently to the mining communities. As a traveler, he visited many communities and encountered people all over the place. For that reason all of you will want to check it for something of use to you. Besides that, it is just good reading about a particular lifestyle - a time and place long gone. I transcribed this diary several years ago and as always I do get "attached" to these people. I was saddened a few weeks after getting to know Daniel, to discover in transcribing the diary of his niece Mary WILSON "Squires" that he was killed "on the cars" in about 1876. He was no doubt delivering another batch of his product and stepped or fell in front of a train. Anyway, have a good time visiting our area in 1873. Joyce M.
