Hello listers, I just returned from my first trip to Tioga Co., where I attended a CLARK family reunion. One of the activities was a cemetery tour in Mansfield, where we walked through both Prospect & Oakwood. We also went to the site (Joyce has a page called 'CLARK BURIALS at POWERS CORNERS) where my earliest ancestor in Tioga was buried. I learned that the property where this site is located, has recently been purchased, and the new owners were not aware of a cemetery being located on their land. They permitted a group of us access to the site, and we found it in deplorable condition - obviously untended for many years. The owners do not want the site repaired, in fact they refused entry to a boy scout who wanted to take this on as an Eagle Scout project, some time ago. They feel it will impinge on their privacy. My questions are these: After all of the discussions on this list concerning access to cemeteries, has anyone actually determined the Pennsylvania state laws which govern access to burial sites that are on private land? Can a cemetery (such as this one) be moved to a more easily accessible location? There are DAR markers on two of the graves. Does the DAR bear any responsibility for maintaining the site? Any comments or suggestions will be gratefully received. BTW - Tioga County was lovely! Thanks...... Dave Clark Belmont NC
