There are more RUMSEY families in Erin and in the area now part of Van Etten. Jeremiah RUMSEY married into the MCINTYRE family. RUMSEYS also married into the Park family. So far I haven't come across a Evalina RUMSEY. John, I have nothing for you on Evalina Rumsey, but I am happy to see someone researching the Rumseys. My Wells family intersected with the Rumseys when Louisa Maria (or Maria Louisa) WELLS born 21 Apr 1836 NY) and died 12 June 1915 married Orrin Darius RUMSEY on 4 Jan 1857 in Sullivan Twp., Tioga Co., PA. Orrin was born 5 Nov 1834 Sullivan Twp, and died 18 May 1910..He was the son of Oliver RUMSEY and Elizabeth LUDDINGTON. Louisa was the daughter of Nelson Wells and Eliza/Elizabeth/Betsy M. Bradford. The latter is buried at Wellsboro Cemetery near Louisa and O.D., but I can't find Nelson Wells' 1860 burial place. I have wondered who has the family Bible kept by Louisa Maria and O.D.? Perhaps there is some clue in there that would help me finish his family line. Thanks, Margie in Calif.

Does anyone have any new information about Evalina GRAY Rumsey's whereabouts after her divorce from Isaac St. John RUMSEY in 1838? It has been suggested that she may have gone to live with her father, James A. GRAY, Sr., but there is no female in the 30-40 years-old category in the 1840 census record for James. Has anyone come across an Evalina (or Evelina or Evelena) Rumsey (or Rumsy or Rumsay) in any 1840 or 1850 census? Jean Rumsey found her--BOTH SHE AND I THINK--in the 1860 census living alone in Barton, Tioga County, New York, as Evelina [transcribed "Evelena" on ancestry.com] Rumsay [sic], with the correct age of 56. I definitely find her in the 1870 census living alone in Troy, Bradford County, PA. The next thing I know is that she died on 6 December 1875 at the County Poor Farm in Wellsboro, Tioga County, PA. I surmise she is buried there in an unmarked grave. (Does anyone have any evidence to the contrary?) I presume that Evalina had been placed in that facility NOT because of penury but because of dementia. (Her daughter, Celia Omira RUMSEY Shaw, who was my great grandmother, and other relatives who still lived in Tioga County could have cared for her at home, had they been able to do so.) I haven't checked to see if Evalina had a will. If there was a will, would it have been probated in Tioga County where she died or in Bradford County where she lived before going to the County Poor Farm in Wellsboro? Hi I have found a lot of information on the Tri Counties website for the Dias family of Elmira, N Y. So much so that it prompted a trip to Elmira to visit Woodlawn Cemetery and obtain more information. I have to say that the employee there was very courteous and helpful. She is an asset to the cemetery association. I am still looking for information on the daughter of Sidney and Jennie Dias. Her name was M. Louise Dias. She was born in 1863. She would be a sister to my great grandfather. I cannot find anything for her. I assume she married and changed her name. Would be thrilled to find someone else who is researching her. Thank you.
