    1. Researching Cornish in Tioga Co.
    2. Judith McConville
    3. Hello: I am researching CHAUNCY CORNISH who on the 1880 PA Census lived in Westfield Twp. He was born Jan. 1841 in NY/PA. He was a farmer & shinglemaker. His wife was Emma M. born abt. 1847 in NY. They had 5 children. Fayette E. born May 1864 in PA; Fredrick D. born abt. 1866 in MN; Frank G. born abt. 1869 in MN; William C. born Feb. 1873 in PA & Jennie E. born abt. 1877 in PA. In 1900, he is living with his son and family in S.D. I suspect Emma M. would have died between 1880 and 1900. In Westfield? I did not find her listed in any of the cemeteries on line for the area. I did find an Anna Cornish in the 1899 Directory for Westfield Borough. She was listed as a widow of Chauncy, h & lot North. Anna/Emma? Maybe, but the dates don't match. In !900, Chauncy is living with his son and in 1910 I have him in the State Soldier's Home in SD. I did note 3 other Cornish buried at the Pioneer Cemetery, Westfield, Tioga Co. Alvia Cornish, Stella Cornish & Lewis Cornish. Thomas Cornish (husband of Stella) was also noted in the 1880 Census. In fact, he was on the same page as Chauncy & family. My question is: is there anyone else out there doing research on this family? I would welcome any advice or direction at this time. Thank you, Judy --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? 1. LEWIS BROTHERS OF LEROY
    2. Looking for any information, news clippings, photos etc. pertaining to the Lewis Brothers of LeRoy, Bradford County, PA. The Lewis Brothers are George, Harrison, and E. Lloyd. They were owners of the Lewis Hotel, Lewis Brothers Lumber Company, and Lewis Brothers General Merchandise Store in LeRoy during the late 1800's, early 1900's. Anything that anyone can contribute will be helpful. I am preparing a program covering the history of the family. The brothers were the sons of Oakley Lewis. Thanks, Matt Carl, President LeRoy Heritage Museum

    2. I can't say how far back they go, but divorce records are found in the Prothonotary's office in the Courthouse. They are in something known as the 'Lunatics Book" (!!) It's a ledger of "lunatics, habitual drunkards, those restrained by injunction from selling or encumbering Real Estate and persons against whom divorce have been granted". The book has indexes of the files which you can then view on microfilm. A quick call to the office should tell you how far back they have files. I viewed a divorce record from 1877 this summer. Interesting reading - he "failed to provide the necessities of life". Lee Kinnan Fazzari Aurora, IL In a message dated 9/16/2004 2:01:07 PM Central Daylight Time, PABRADFO-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: I had finally found some information on My Stephen Cease and his wife Alzadia Woodard (her sister was Lydia who married a Eli McConnell). I requested the widow pension record of thier daughter Mary Cease Newell. When questioned, She said that her parents were Stephen Cease and Alzadia Woodard and she was born in 1846. When she was about 4, her parents seperated and a few years later divorced. She was sent to live with her mothers sister Lydia McConnell and her brother Daniel Cease was bonded out to a Mr. Purshal or Parshall. Do you know if any divorce records would exist around 1850 to 1858? I give 1858 because Alzadia remarried then to Henry Buck. Does any one know if these records still exist and where I would write to find them? She said that she was in Sullivan, Tioga COunty until the age of 19 so I would think her mother would have gotten it there. Nancy Hicks

    3. I'm traveling to the Corning/Elmira area and want to know where the best copy centers are. I'll be visiting relatives who have a lot of pictures and old documents. I stayed at the Econo Lodge near Arnot-Ogden Mall last time and copied at the nearby Office Deport/Max or whatever it's called. My relatives have suggested I stay in Corning since it is about 6 miles closer to where they live. Anyone have advice on copy center in the Corning/Elmira? last time we spent a full day copying. I'll need good color copies as well as the normal black/white. Thanks in advance for your advice. Sandra

    3. Hi, all, I'm planning a research trip to Chemung and Steuben Counties in early October in search of info on the Daniel DAVIS family. I am most interested in checking for wills and divorce records. Where should I start this search? Are these records-wills, circa 1900 and divorces, circa 1895-1905--easily accessible to the public? In addition, I'll be looking for any information on the "DAVIS Novelty Company" which was located in Elmira from approximately 1890 to at least 1923. This company invented and manufactured early slot machines. Where might this type of info be found? I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thank you Isabella McMasters Little Egg Harbor, NJ botmline@sprynet.com
