2. Hi All Friends, Helpers, and Guests of Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice I have uploaded a few new pages yesterday and this morning. The Family Memories of Blanche Frasier of Sabinsville area can be reached from the Women's Page at Box 4A of the Online Research Library. You can also reach this from both the Clymer and Gaines township pages. I included two Sabinsville postcards photos on the page. A very partial reading of the Babcock Hill Cemetery of Windham can be reached from the Windham Township page. The person who sent it in intends to read the rest of the cemetery sometime soon. Another page of Obits and Clippings (Page 116) has been added to the Obituary section which you can access from Box 8A of the Online Research Library. We had torrential rain here yesterday. The streets were flooded when I left a client in Cortland in the afternoon. I live at the top of the second highest hill in this county, but the rain came down the hill into my upper pond yesterday, so fast it could not get out that fast. It overflowed all down the bank, through my flower beds (weedy flower beds), back lawn, cellar, and washed ruts in the driveway. I had a river running in the back lawn. I wish I could save some of this water, because I am convinced that with this early excessive heat, we are headed into another drought. That's all for today. I have to go to Pennsylvania today on parental care issues again. Joyce M. Tice Tri-Counti es Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice

1. [PABRADFO] Quiet List
2. Hi Everyone, It has been a busy time here, and probably everyone else is just as busy. Some of us read some cemeteries on Saturday (Looked and Looked for one that we failed to find). Sunday I had company almost all day, I have been trying to get my flower beds in order, my daughter is having a baby any day now, and my grandchildren play ball on two different ball teams. On the bright side, the weather has been great here in Bradford County, at least until last night. The lilacs are starting to bloom, the sun pretty much baked my daffy's and tulips, but viola's, johnney jump ups, for-get-me-nots etc. are blooming, and are very pretty. It is cooler tonight after the shower. This is such a pretty time in Bradford County. My humming birds are back, and I counted 16 different birds at the bird feeders this weekend. Have a good week everyone. Pat Raymond

3. Marion, It has always been my understanding that if you are the child of an American citizen that you could claim US citizenship no matter where you were born. If your mom was born in Canada to an American citizen, she would (in effect) have dual US and Canadian citizenship. Same for a child born of Canadian (or any other nationality) parents born in the US -- if you're born here, you can claim US citizenship no matter what the nationality of your parents. However I do not know when this started. My grandfather was an American Citizen even though he lived and worked in Hamilton. When my parents were engaged, my mother claimed my grandfather's American citizenship in order to marry my father, who was in the Army Air Corps. The family story went on that my Dad wouldn't have been allowed to marry her unless she was naturalized or an American Citizen through my grandfather. My Dad flew armed recon - a modified P-47 Mustang - Distinguished Flying Cross - three Oak Leaf Clusters. Maybe his security clearance had something to do with the requirement. I don't know if that helps. Sounds rather convoluted now that I read it. Marion Scherer

3. Hi listers, My wife is a naturalized citizen, and after attending a couple of citizenship classes with her (back in the 70's), I learned that the citizen wanna-be's probably know more about our history than most native born Americans. I served with a couple of Canadians in the U.S. Air Force, and both indicated that they would be granted American citizenship upon completion of service - in other words, 4 years instead of the 5 year wait. That was back in the days of the draft, so they both thought to 'kill 2 birds with 1 stone' - get American citizenship, and avoid Viet-Nam. I have also uploaded the 2000 reading of the Gore Cemetery of Sheshequin. This includes more listings than the 1902 list that has been on the site for a while. My morning client had to postpone for a while so this give me a little time for some site maintenance. Joyce M. 2. Hi, folks. I have the same question. My great great grandmother came to the US from the Virgin Islands to Steuben County in 1865. She was a widow, and I think she was born in St.Croix, which was then Danish. Possibly her family was British. When she died, in 1892 in Chicago, her death certificate lists citizenshp as American. She owned land in Chicago at that time. Did a person have to become a citizen to own land in her own name? She never remarried, so I know she must have become a citizen, probably in either Steuben County or in Mansfield, where she lived around 1875. Help, help! Smiles today. The daffodils are so beautiful on the Tri-counties site, aren't they? 3. Dear list, Roland questioned me about the naturalization information I gave. I guess I answered him and not to the list so I will (since Joyce had a question also) copy the list with my remarks on this. This is what I sent: According to my books many Europeans were granted citizenship in recognition of their support of the colonies during the revolution. He wants to know about naturalization in 1850. So we would apply this rule: 1790 passed law that you could be a citizen after 2 years in the states in which applied, with good moral character, and swearing to support the constitution. In 1795 the law changed to 5 years and a letter of intent 3 years before being admitted to citizenship, foreswear allegiance to any foreign power, renounce any titles, and swear an oath to support the constitution, and be of good moral character. (that would count out many today) Keep in mind this is only MEN. In 1798 an amendment changed it to 14 years but it dropped back in 1802. It remained this way for 104 years then. So I would say that no mention of service was made. Do you know of any? (this was his question. Did anyone receive citizenship in return for service in the service?) There was an instance of Texans who gained citizenship by Act of Congress in 1845. some Indians in 1800s and later in 1924. But in 1850 the rule of 1795 would have been in force. Wives and minor children became naturalized through the father's naturalization. Let me know if you know of any other rules if you will. I find this process fascinating. Thanks for the challenge Roland. As for your question, Joyce. Women did not apply for citizenship until the year 1922!!!! Until this time a wife automatically became naturalized when her husband did. Surely does make it hard to trail those women. Hope this helps a few of you. 1. Re: Fw: [PABRADFO] Citizenship Residency Requirements
2. Roland, My mother was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
