Linda S." HeHeHe Linda, the washboard is a musical instrument NOW. It started out as a laundry instrument. Take a large kettle. Flake soap into it. Build fire under it. put in washboard, dirty clothes. rub the clothes against the board. remove the board. boil clothes. let cool, rinse. wring, hang. supposed to be easier than just by hand. Filled the kettle with water from a well. Laundry took all day. Read this discription somewhere, supposed to be true. ===== Sister Blue Rose http://www.egroups.com/subscribe.cgi/ER4YTtypeO http://www.broadcast.com/books/scifi/strangerinastrangeland_981.html http://www.egroups.com/subscribe/ZellRavenheart2K http://www.etour.com/default.asp?associd=aff18605 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Came across an ancestor who was a manger of the Fallbrook Friendly Society..Any information on this group that appeared to be around in the middle 1800's? Beverly
Boy, you certainly cannot over emphasise the genealogy commandment -"check every spelling". I was looking at an index this morning and came across several interesting last names thanks to that particular census taker but this topped them all: FITSJARLD. I am certainly glad I was not looking for any FITZGERALDs in that county. Charmaine Riley Holley arkivemom@aol.com "May you ask the right question of the right person at the right time. Hello I am writing this to several list so if this is a repeat I am sorry. I am looking for the parents and sibling of JACOB CUPP. Jacob was born December 14, 1767, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I have recently been made aware that back in those days half of Pennsylvania was considered Lancaster County. Which half of Pennsylvania I do not know? I would appreciate census look ups and if you would look in any information you might have. Many descendants of Jacob Cupp believe he is the son of Andrew Cupp and Mary Elizabeth Wynkold. The will of Andrew proves that this is in correct and the wrong Jacob Cupp. Can anyone help or find any records on him? Does anyone have census records for 1770 and 1780 where they would look up for him? Please reply with where you looked even if you cannot find him. At least this will tell me where he is not and help to narrow down the possibilities. Thank you so very much for your help. Patricia

I just have to say one of the reasons I stay connected to this lists is the friendly, homey, familiar, helpful atmosphere it prevails. I wish the other lists would take heed. I have seen lists get off the track, and have seen list owners flat out say, harsh words to the list as a whole, so far you haven't. I commend you on how you handle the list. What you are doing to the site for all of us. I just wanted to say publicly, thank you, for your time and dedication. Hi All, The absolute FINAL upload for today is a 1933 article on Mosherville that Kelsey sent in. You can reach this from the Wells Township page of <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. HI All, I have just added EIGHT new pages to the newspaper abstracts of Tioga County Newspapers. These are Mansfield Advertiser excerpts form 1880 to 1882. I was not able for this batch to find photos of people in the events for all eight of the pages, so I added photos of people who were in the widespread communities served by that paper in that period or who were reading it. The pictures alone are terrific. I so enjoy the old photos. You can reach the newspaper abstracts section from Box 7B of the Online Research Library of <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri- Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Hi Listers... Re: Joyce's page, Asylum Twp (from the Reference Library). I don't know the location of the George Gordon Family Cemetery. Can somebody direct me to it? If so, I'll read it and get it up on the page. Thanks, Dick McCracken Towanda, PA -- Plan Your Work... Work Your Plan...
Laura... This was submitted by a list member and is a dandy. http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ Ken
Ken, you wrote: "Thanks you to all who have responded and continue to respond to my plea for help in comparing income and living costs by decade for the period 1800-1900 inclusive." Can you share with the list how to convert monetary amounts to 1999 dollars? I have a person who inherited $300 in 1892, and I'm wondering how much value this would have been in her time? Thanks so much. Laura in NC
Hi All, Two more cemeteries are now online. I have lost track of the number of cemetery listings uploaded today. The newest are Snedeckerville in Columbia Township and a new reading of Thompson Hill Cemetery in South Creek. Check them out from the township pages of <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> Joyce M. Tice
Hi All, Another Cemetery still for today. This time is Ridge Cemetery of Ridge Road in Veteran that is now available. This is a 1999 listing prepared by Gordon Samson who is also caretaker. The cemetery is also known as Pine Grove or Vary. The earlier listing that has been on the site is only a partial, but this one includes nearly 600 burials. My apologies to Gordon for taking SO LONG to get his listing online. Take a look from the Veteran Township page of <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> Joyce M. Tice
Hi All, Another Cemetery listing is online today. The little Gilbert Family Burial Ground of Asylum has been added. You can reach it from the Asylum Township page of <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Cou nties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> Joyce M. Tice
Hi All, Another Cemetery Listing is now available from <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> This is the new reading of the Checkerville Cemetery of South Creek. This is in addition to the older listing that has been on site for a few years. I believe our new listing is both an improvement as well as an update to the older listing. The group that we have working are very meticulous and the group is large enough that when there is any doubt as to dates or inscriptions, they can pool their collective resources to make the best judgment. Check out the new listing from the South Creek Township page of <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> Joyce M. Tice
This came from a "friend" who found it in her grandma's cookbook!!!! ((I would NEVER have found it!!LOL)) A Prayer for the Middle Aged Lord, thou knowest better than I know myself that I am growing older and will someday be old. Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and on every occasion. Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody; helpful but not bossy, with my vast store of wisdom it seems a pity not to use it all, but thou knowest, Lord, I want a few friends at the end. Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details. Give me wings to get to the point. Seal my lips on my aches and pains. They are increasing, and the love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by. I dare not ask grace enough to enjoy the tales of other's pains, but help me to endure them with patience. I dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growing humility and less cocksuredness when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken. Keep me reasonably sweet; I do not want to be a saint - some of them are so hard to live with - but a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places and talents in unexpected people. Give me grace to tell them so. Amen.
Hi All Friends and guests of <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> Three new (old) cemeteries are now on the site, all in Asylum Township. These are Jennings Family, Decker at Durrell, and Old Frenchtown. Note to the newcomers: Please be sure to enter the site at the "Front Door" at <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm to give yourself the best benefit of the site. Please also read the How to Use the Site page to understand the structure of the site and the resources it contains.. I would remind even the "long-timers" that if you have not opened every entry in the Online Research Library, you may be missing something important to you. Nearly every day, I get mail, often from friends of long standing, who have discovered something new on the site that has been there for years and they have missed it. Go exploring. Joyce M. Tice
Joyce, me name is Meagan Warfle and I have always been curious as to the history of the Lion in Evergreen Cemetery...I couldn't seem to find it anywhere...if you could please e-mail me back some info on it I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Meagan ---------------------- Hi Meagan. The lion once stood in front of one of the nicer homes in Tioga and was later moved to the cemetery. At one time, not too long ago, it was stolen and entered the antiques market. It was located someplace in Virginia, if my memory is correct, and was returned. It is now locked and bolted into a concrete base so that it can not be stolen again. I have photos of it but have probably not put them onto the site yet as the Evergreen Cemetery listing is one I uploaded a long time ago (In Internet terms). Joyce M. Tice <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counti es Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A> PS, On the issue of stolen cemetery artifacts, there was also a large iron dog, a Labrador retriever, that was in one of the Troy township cemeteries guarding the grave of a child. It too was stolen. I have photos of it given to me by a friend and may get them online "one of these days" too. That might make an interesting page for the site, Statuary of the Tri-County Cemeteries. When I run out of other things to do (Ha) I will do this one.)
Hi,List. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is more than one cemetary in Clymer. I am going looking for my great-grandmothers grave tomorrow. Her obit only says she is buried in Clymer. Thanks a bunch, Rose for the Ocseola/Fairview Cemetery? My cousin tells me there are are COLVIN family members buried there without gravestones after 1885. > > Paul Giometti > > > >
