Hi All, I have just added the 1873 diary of Daniel Burton of Rutland to the site. The Diary Collection can be accessed from Box 31B of the Online Research Library of Tri- Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice Daniel made his living carving out axe handles and pick handles and marketing them throughout the Tri-County area. He traveled by train regularly to deliver his product, frequently to the mining communities. As a traveler, he visited many communities and encountered people all over the place. For that reason all of you will want to check it for something of use to you. Besides that, it is just good reading about a particular lifestyle - a time and place long gone. I transcribed this diary several years ago and as always I do get "attached" to these people. I was saddened a few weeks after getting to know Daniel, to discover in transcribing the diary of his niece Mary WILSON "Squires" that he was killed "on the cars" in about 1876. He was no doubt delivering another batch of his product and stepped or fell in front of a train. Anyway, have a good time visiting our area in 1873. Joyce M. Tice Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice

Dear PABRADFO - You are lucky - I checked, and it doesn't appear that the program will be aired in the New York City area at all! And I can receive three PBS stations! This past weekend I had the chance to visit the new headquarters of the Bradford County Historical Socity on Pine St Towanda. What a difference: more space, better lighting and as always a great staff. The genealogy in on the second floor while the first is being readyed for a museum with a room for a bookstore. All the jail cells remain on the second florr but instaed of prisoners they are filled with records. If you can, get up to see it. John Laughlin

Hi Patricia, If Jacob Cupp was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania you should be looking in that area for his birth versus Bradford County. Lancaster is in southern Pennsylvania and Bradford is in northern Pennsylvania and few Lancaster residents found their way to Bradford County to settle. I would suggest consulting the recently published "Pennsylvania Births" by John T. Humphrey in 1994. These volumes are by county and cover those counties that primarily saw an influx of German immigrants. For instance Philadelphia County 1644-1765 is a volume of 567 pages and covers records of fifteen churches, primarily German and Lutheran. Most of your libraries in southwestern Pennsylvania will have the series of volumes and Lancaster County is included. Census records do not begin until 1790. J. I am traveling to the National Archives this summer in Washington, DC. Would appreciate any pointers. Any other good libraries close to Alexandria, VA. Many Thanks, C. Shaffer
I simply wish to express my gratitude to all those who responded to my request for help in locating information about Jacob Cupp and which counties he might possible have been born in. I was informed incorrect or miss interpreted that Lancaster was once about half of PA. As a relatively new research I have learned to ask questions even if it may sound dumb to others, for when I have asked those question that is when I have found out the most. I did not know when the first census was recorded but knew if I asked I would find out. I thank all for sharing and trying to shed some light on my surname and for your willingness to share and help others. Patricia
Roland, I also was watching our PBS stations and checking newspaper TV guides to no avail. Since, I believe, it was mentioned on the Pabradfo list that airing would be in June, I checked the website for the local PBS stations and emailed them asking when Ancestors II was slated for programming. They emailed me back that Ancestors would start on July 1 and referred me to http://kbyu.org/ancestors/. If your local PBS stations have a web site, perhaps they also may respond to emails. Good luck, Ken
Ok--guys.....Not meant as criticism....but PLEASE don't mention cooking gear!!! (Power's been off to my stove for 12 yrs---it will bring back too many horrible memories!!!LOL) List is great. It feels like FAMILY!!! Look out-'God's Country"--here I come!!!! Marylyn
Hi: I worked at the Fallbrook plant, Corning Glass, years ago. Also heard of a Fallbrook railroad. But no secrret society. Let me know what you find. Bill Stiles; Charlotte, NC
I have been tracking PBS here in Southern California in order to determine when Ancestors II will filter into their programming. For you West Coasters in Southern California, KCET advises that airing will begin on July 1 at 4:30PM. Ken Sullivan Canyon Lake, Ca

I'm back...with the same e-mail address. Now, I use a phone line out of Ithaca instead of Elmira, NY. So, figure this out: I now pay Watkins Glen school tax, live in the township of Hector, have a phone line from Burdett (Ithaca and Montour Falls/Watkins Glen are all local numbers), and have a snail mail Montour Falls address. This morning, a heron flew across within 25 feet of my picture window and tonight, the same deer has followed its usual path across the field below my house. Loving it... Bonnie

Ok you guys (LOL) -- I was being totally sarcastic when I told Roland that I thought it was a musical instrument! I know what a washboard is, have even used one on occasion (but not the way you've all described)! I can remember my grandmother washing clothes using "stompers" which looked like upsidedown funnels on long sticks. Then she got a gasoline powered washer as electricity didn't reach the farm in Wilmot township until the 40's. Carlton Wheeler
