    2. Some time ago I posted a message about my experience with this company in ordering a death certificate for an uncle who died in Michigan. I had requested a certificate for Oshea Spaulding and received one for an Oliver. I Emailed VitalChek about this error and also returned the incorrect certificate to Michigan. Today :) I received a message from VitalChek that they had credited my Visa account for the $18.00 Just wanted all of you to know that, yes, they can be trusted! Jean Spalding Barbour

    2. Robert Matthews
    3. Hi. I know that there is a web site for computing dates into the days of the week but I am not finding it. Can anyone help me? I am trying to figure out what day of the week January 5, 1893 was on. I FINALLY found a lead on my Grandmother, Jennie Stiles Burroughs Vanamberg. In the Westfield Free Press on January 5, 1893: Mrs. Jennie Vanamberg died at her home in Ulysses and was buried Tuesday of last week. This is a REAL break through for me. Thanks a bunch, Rose

    1. Re: [PABRADFO] Orange county or town
    2. Bill, The information on a death certificate depends on who is giving it. I have found quite a lot of misinformation particularly on deaths of older people. Helping someone some time ago the place of death was listed as North Carolina as given by his second wife. Later a letter from her was found saying she had forgotten at the time that he was born in Maryland and went to North Carolina when three years old. Ralph Weller

I assumed it to be Orange county and now need to know if it was customary back then to show place of birth as state, town or county. Two of his children are shown as PA on their certificates.; which I thought was Pennsylvania. AnY Ideas? Bill Stiles, Charlotte, NC

    2. Having grown up in the thriving burg (ha!) of Mitchell Creek, I appreciate the info on the Mitchell family. We were 20th century arrivals to that area but no doubt some of my ancestors in the region knew the original Mitchell. For those who need directions, it's halfway between Tioga & Tioga Junction. Don't blink, you'll miss it! Lee Kinnan Fazzari >>(v) Richard, son of Nathaniel Mitchell, was born in Orange, New Jersey, July 5, 1769, died in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, March 11=20 1847. He was one of the early settlers of Chemung County, New York. locating in the town of Southport in 1791 with brothers Thomas and Robert. A year later Richard and Thomas Mitchell came up the Tioga river in a canoe and settled August 27, 1793, at what has since been known as Mitchell Creek. He cleared and improved a farm on Tioga river., which he Cultivated until his death. He was a man of strong athletic build, a fine type of the sturdy pioneers who subdued the forests of Tioga County. There were few settlers when he first arrived and the county a dense wilderness, but he lived to see it well settled, filled with well cultivated fields and thriving towns. <<

    3. Is anyone familiar with Bessie Brady, also known as Bess Brady? She was an artist with a summer home outside Ulster, PA, on the old dairy road where Hazel Dell Farm is located, currently owned by Roger and Annabelle Lamb. Miles Forman Ransom and his wife, Adelaide Delpeuch Lent owned Hazel Dell Farm, a wedding present from her parents, John Lent and Susan Minier. Up the road (heading west) was the summer home of Peter Brady and his wife. Bess is buried in the Catholic section of the Ulster Cemetery. She was a great friend of my great, great aunt, Alice Ransom, whose sister, Jessie Hyatt Ransom Nicol, is my great grandmother. My cousins and I have several paintings by Bess. We would be interested in any information about her and whether anyone out there might be interested in selling her art work, or knows of a gallery or antique shop that might have some of her work. Thanks, all, in advance. Cynthia Weaver Winder SEARCHING Ransom, Forman, Platt, Nicol, Lent

    2. >From the library I find that it was built in 1897 to house the Tioga Point Historical Society and a public library. Mr. Jesse Spalding of Chicago, a native of Athens, PA, donated $15,000 (which eventually became $25,000) for the building. It was erected in memory of his son, Robert L. Spalding. On a bronze plaque in the library: In Loving Memory 1872 - Robert L.
