Good Morning, I am new to your list. I am researching the McIntosh Family. Andrew McIntosh was born in Elmira 8 March 1939. His father is Richard McIntosh. If anyone has any information on this family please contact me. Thank you Kelly
Does anyone know the location of a Warren Flats in Chemung Co., or any of the surrounding counties in NY/PA? I ran across a notation regarding Warren Flats when trying to trace my Warren family genealogy. Also, does anyone know the location of Grass Flats in Tioga Co., PA? Your help is appreciated! Lynne B. Howell

You may find a family Bible where you least expect it! My dad didn't know what happened to the family Bible -- but he remembered entries for births back to the early 1800's. In my quest for family information, I contacted the ex-wife of my uncle (who died in the 1970's). I knew it was a long shot, but decided she "may" have kept a few things from their fairly short marriage. She was happy to provide me with a few items; including old newspapers and photos -- but no family Bible. About two months later, I got a call from her -- she had run into an old neighbor from many years ago. The neighbor said she had something she wanted to "return" to her. It was the family Bible! It seems my uncle loaned it to them in the early 1970s -- then my uncle and his wife divorced and moved. The old neighbors didn't know how to contact them --- so they kept the Bible in hopes of running into one of them. Almost 30 years later -- the Bible is returned. When my aunt got home, she immediately called me and said she wanted me to have it as I was the one doing the family research. What a wonderful phone call! The package arrived three days later -- and it was the family Bible exactly as my father remembered it from his youth. I feel very honored to be the "keeper" of the Bible. You just never know what may result from one of your long shots! Good luck to all in your research! How do you get to the Mercur Cemetery from Wysox? Thanks, L. Miller

Hi Listers, I recently discussed some old, unidentified photos I have with the curator of the Bradford County Historical Society. He told me that they would appreciate any and all of them. I presume that they would like any from Bradford County. Any responsible historical society should welcome the opportunity to increase their collections. Even if the people are not identified, clothing, furnishings, background, etc., compliment period displays and collections. Dick McCracken Towanda, PA -- Plan Your Work... Work Your Plan...

I had a memorable visit to the Tri Counties this past week. Local researchers in Bradford and Tioga Counties volunteered their time to enable me to do personal research as well as record the Granville Center Cemetery for the list. I was amazed at the beauty of the area. One home we visited was a veritable museum of bottles, coffee cans, tools, etc. from 100 years ago. Speaking of bottles, I was surprised when a resident of Antrim, Tioga, Co. produced a medicine bottle with my great grandfather's name engraved on it. I was able to meet a new cousin at her home in Chemung Co. Of course, I am already planning another visit to our favorite counties. Tim Drake
In our area we have a Historical museum that takes old pictures even when they are not identified and has them all filed away. We went in last week took pictures of some them. My sister and I have two old bibles with family lines going back to 1762 list of Elisha Howe family. What a waste to throw anything away! We also have a Daniel H. Furman bible from Tioga, PA listing there family. I wish it went beyond Daniel. Does anybody have anything on that line? How about libraries would they keep the family bibles. Should be able to find somebody to keep them instead of throwing them out or at least put them on line for other people that may be looking for info.
Please remove my address from your listings. Thank You
This made me think: Are we doing all we can to preserve and distribute our many hours of toil on our genealogy research? Before it's too late.....? Gwen Mecum Hunt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Source and/or original author unknown] Dear Cousin, In response to your letter, I am sorry to inform you that grandpa "Fred" died some time back and the stuff you asked about is not available. The personal property the family did not want was sold at an estate sale. All those boxes of junk did not interest a single buyer. We were able to salvage several binders for the kids homework after we sent all the paper to the incinerator. The kids really complained about having to lug all that paper and pictures of those ugly old folks to the dumpster. An old family Bible from the 1840's did bring $ 5.00. The one from the 1870's did not sell. There also was a bunch of floppy disks that we were able to reformat and download some games for the kids to play on their new playstation. At least SOMEBODY got some good from the three generations work. I saw the fellow at a flea market a couple of weeks ago and he said he threw the Bible in the trash after nobody was interested in it. He said he got an offer for fifty cents for it, but would rather burn it than give it away. He seemed to be having a lot of success with some of the very nice Elvis paintings at his booth. The two aunts you asked about are also dead. They were such a delight and could talk all day long about the things papa had written about. I remember them saying something about some records that were copied from two courthouses that later burned. Neither ever wrote down a single thing. The letter you referred to was one he typed up and sent to lots of folks who wrote him. He laughed about them never getting any of his hard work as well as his Fathers and Grandfather who was in the Civil War . He guarded all the information carefully to the bitter end. I wish I could remember some of the things to help you, but I was bored to tears listening to them talk about the family members who were in the civil war and those silly pieces of paper he showed so proudly. I vaguely remember they had some beeswax seals and something to do with the land grants that were destroyed in the courthouse fires. I wish I could remember the story about his grandfathers evening with Jefferson Davis when he was on the run. There are also some very juicy stories that were handed down, but I don't remember them very well. Another thing I remember after he got sick was some fellow calling him and he agreed to let him come down and copy all his material. He told him he would call him back when he felt better. Papa mentioned something about letting the society the man was from have all his work since nobody in the family cared anything about a bunch of people who had been dead for 200 years. Papa died the next week. I am so sorry papa and the two generations wasted so much of their life on such worthless hobbies and hope your family will follow something more interesting.
