When this is all online it will represent over 8500 individuals. As stated on the main page, please do not ask me when the Ds or Qs or whatever will be online. They will all be online as soon as I can get them there and asking will not speed up the process. Reference recent postings concerning errors in vital records: My mother's date certificate had her mother-in-law listed as her mother. I wrote to Vital Records in harrisburg, PA and documented the error. They were willing to correct the error for the small fee of 14.00 dollars! Yes, I would have to pay to have a public record corrected. Guess what the record still reads! -- Life's Little Frustration Three weeks after subscribing to a magazine, you get your first renewal notices.
Howdy, Listers: Within 48 hours two direct email messages about "The Lost Clan of the McElhoes" reached me this week in response to Tri Counties Queries and/or Tri Counties Mail List. Living kin of my great grand father, George White McElhoe have contacted me from California and from Florida. He is said to have died March 24, 1889 or 1880 in Athens, Bradford, BUT....I've been working the Tri Counties Research Library since early April, finding no sign that any McElhoe ever was born, married or buried there. Except for his old photo, and grand mother's hand-written sketch of family history, he seems to have left no records on Earth except lines in six census reports. None of us know where or when he died...yet Had I not remained on The List, these messages from living kin would not have come to me! Suffering "dead end discouragement, I've been revitalized! Copies of the the rare old photo have been emailed to folks who now regard it as a "priceless" family treasure. Geo. W. has 8 generations in the branches of his family tree. My thanks to Joyce, Tri Counties, and the volunteer helpers who make it possible. DeGinder/DeKinter - Texas

I forgot to mention that obtaining a new certificate requires a new signature from the doctor. Since he made one of the mistakes, I didn't have trouble getting it. . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray W. Hello, I'm searching for information about a step-child of ORANGE BOSWORTH and ELIZABETH TUPPER, (m.1827). Elizabeth's first husband was HARRY TUPPER, son of NATHAN TUPPER. They had a daughter Elizabeth and a son, HENRY b. 1822 in Warren, Brad. Co. PA. HARRY TUPPER died in 1826, and his widow remarried ORANGE BOSWORTH. Henry, my gg-grandfather never spoke of his parents, perhaps because he was a step-child and may have been treated badly (sorry for the stereotype). I am very interested in any information which might be available about Henry Tupper and his parents. I have complete information about the descendents of Henry Tupper (my tree) and I will share with anyone who may be researching this line. Thank you for your assistance, Alice
Hello Listers, I have been following with interest the commentary on incorrect data on the various "certified" documents. My personal experience was a real eye opener. In 1953 when I graduated from high school, the county decided to give each graduate a laminated wallet size diploma and birth certificate in addition to the traditional diploma. The birth records were sent from Raleigh, NC to the school so that each student could verify the information (thank goodness!!). My given name on the official form was Joyce Marlene Edwards. I had always gone by the name Bonnie Jean. When I asked my mother about this, her comment was she had liked both names but when she got me home from the hospital, she decided to call me Bonnie Jean rather than Joyce Marlene. My official birth certificate now has a line drawn through Joyce Marlene and above it written my present name along with a change date and an official stamp. What a mess this could have been for a future researcher and what a disappointment to me - I could have died and no one would have ever know that I had lived!!! My two cents worth! Have a good day folks! Bonnie Edwards Carder - researching Shaffers
I am searching for any information regarding Adeline Haxton, b. 1805 in NY, d/o (?) & (?) m. 25 Mar 1823 in (Bradford Co.) PA, John L. Loomis, Sr., b. 1801 in the Gennessee Valley of NY, s/o Augustus & Liberty Gillett Loomis. Is Adeline a sister of Russell Haxton, b. abt. 1795 in NY, and Seth Haxton, b. abt. 1794 in NY? I notice in the 1850 Census for Granville Twp., Bradford Co., PA, that their families reside close together. Could Russell, Seth, and Adeline be the children of John Haxton mentioned in the 1812 Taxpayers list? I am descended from Adeline & John through their son Seth, who m. Ann(a) Fenton. I am descended through their youngest daughter, Evangeline (Eva) May Loomis who m. Dayton Leslie Phinney. Eva and Dayton were my ggrandparents. Any help regarding the Haxton line would be greatly appreciated. I have hit a dead end. Lynne B. Howell
I am looking for any information the list could give on the parents or other "relatives" of : Martha Jane BREES, born Dec. 05, 1830, and died Jan. 28, 1913. She married Phineas Helme (the 3rd one), on Jan. 22, 1849, in Elmira, N.Y., by a Rev. Seaver. I need to find her relationship to the Breeses of Breesport, N.Y. I believe she is a daughter or grand-daughter of one of them! The two of them are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. Alice Hartford

Dear Listers, For the past three days I have been working with old (ancient? - 1220 to 600) Welsh ancestral records. Following is a representative sample of given names: Payn, Madog, Rhys, Meurig, Gwrgan, Ithel, Cynfyn, Idwallon, Angherad, Mareduold, Lleuca, Enflew, Hywel, Nest, Rhodri, Merfyn, etc. They are a combination of male and female names. Can anybody correctly identify the gender of each? I doubt it, unless you specialize in the period of time and the Gaelic language. Fortunately for me, the gender is identified in the records I'm researching. The point of this? If your birth certificate is incorrect, 800 to 1700 years from now people researching their ancestry may have a similar problem with the popular given names of today. They may not be able to determine if it is a given name, a surname, or it's gender. A CORRECT vital record (in this case a birth certificate) would certainly be of great assistance here, wouldn't it? If yours is incorrect you have the singular distinction of being able to correct the historical record! I have a sister whose middle name is Gene. When she was born Mother insisted that it be spelled that way. The nurse who recorded the name and prepared the request for creation of a birth certificate apparently thought that it should be spelled Jean -- after all she was a girl. Later in life this became an important personal matter to my sister. Nancy Gene went through a lot of effort to have her name changed to reflect the desire of our deceased mother. I believe that she had to engage an attorney and petition the courts for a legal change of name. Think about it! Dick McCracken Towanda, PA -- Plan Your Work... Work Your Plan...
Hi Listers, I've been following the thread about incorrect vital records with much interest. Apathy about their accuracy is a great dis-service to all. For the past 11 years I reviewed death certificates of service-connected disabled veterans to help families determine the possibility that the deceased's death might be service-connected. I found that im the majority of cases, the death certificate did not reflect the actual cause of death. Many simply state that the person died of Heart Failure or some other innocuous cause, when in fact, the cause of death was due to other reasons. Of course, everybody dies of "Heart Failure." One of the primary reasons for this is that the physician, coroner or deputy coroner who signs the death certificate is not the person's attending physician and does not have knowledge of the person's medical history, does not have access to current medical records, or does not take the time to do so. When the cause of death (or a contributing factor to the death) was likely to have been the result of a service-connected disease or injury I have had some success in having family contact the attending physician or the coroner to have the record corrected then filed application for service-connected death benefits for the family. It is much simpler to have the record corrected at the time of death than to have it done later. It is also simpler than obtaining copies of a deceased's medical records. What happens to medical records following death of a person? Often the remain in the possession of the attending physician until his retirement or death. Then, they are usually destroyed in order to avoid wrongful death lawsuits against physician's estates. If it is important to you that you know the actual cause, and the contributing factors, of death, find out immediately. As for correction of birth records: Sometimes following death of a veteran, family needed a birth certificate for various reasons. Let me assure you that an error on a birth certificate can deny passport and proof of American citizenship. If you have an error on yours, take the time to get it corrected now! In Pennsylvania, your state representative's office has the forms, will assist in preparing them, and can expedite their processing. Do it now!!! You never know when it will be extremely important to you or to your family. Dick McCracken Towanda, PA -- Plan Your Work... Work Your Plan...

When I was going through the Richland Co OH records for my ADAMS ancestors, I found this curious mess reporting a set of twins: Birth records: Clyde Adams born 1 Sep 1886 parents Alexander Adams & Inez Neff Floyd Adams born 1 Sep 1886 parents Alexander Adams & Inez Neff Death records: Clyde Adams died 21 Jan 1890 age 3 (no death record for Floyd) Cemetery records: Floid Whiting died 8 Nov 1887 age 1-1-0 son of John buried in lot 720 Clide Whiting died 21 Jan 1890 age 3-4-0 son of John buried lot 720 These were twin boys born to John & Alice (Adams) Whiting. All I can figure is that the birth and death were reported by Alice's father Alexander Adams and even that isn't right as his wife was Keziah, not Inez. The only living descendant of Alice didn't know anything about these twins. Margaret
As for mistakes on birth certificates - I am 51 y.o. and my birth certificate says that I am the son of -- . (By the way, I am definetly a female!) The W.A.C. accepted it, also, so have never bothered to have it corrected.
