Could someone familiar with the names of railroads in the Chemung Co. area tell me the full name of the NCRR. I found an ancestor listed in a city directories and it noted his occupation for one year was fireman NCRR and the next year he was listed as engineer NCRR. I would like to look for him in railroad records, but would like the full name, please. Thanks Kathleen Barrett
Hi, I am looking for any info on a Simeon KING who was 82 in 1840 and living with Alvin PARMENTER in Springfield Township. Alvin's wife Fidelia may have been Simeon's daughter. Also searching for Henry KING Allen who married Ida May COLEMAN. Ida May was born 1867 in Pike Township to Homer COLEMAN and Jemima PALMER. I am very interested in whether the King family is connected to these Allens. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Beth Sumpter
I went through the Elmira directory website and found two Annabel/Annable names I did not expect. Does anyone know anything more about Dr. Frederic C. Annabel and his brother, Dr. Charles E. Annabel. They were both physicians and surgeons in 1889-1893 with offices at 202 Pennsylvania Ave. and 111-113 West Hudson. Charles practiced with a Dr. O. S. Williamson. Any information would be much appreciated. Audrey Annable Franklin

The rest of the article; At its height, the GAR numbered nearly a half million members. The remaining property of the GAR - two flags, a quantity of badges, and a gavel made from wood taken from Abraham Lincoln's home - is to be given to the Smithsonian Institute. Barb Conrad
I found this in a local newspaper, issue date Oct. 18, 1956, and thought there might be others on this list who doesn't know about this: Federal Court Dissolves Grand Army of Republic The Grand Army of the Republic, formed by Union Veterans of the Civil War, has been dissolved by Mississippi-born Judge Burnita S. Matthews. Judge Matthews wrote the official end to the once-proud GAR by signing an order in federal district court. She acted on a petition of dissolution presented by GAR attorneys who noted that the last member of the organization, Albert Woodson, passed away last August at the age of 109 in Duluth, Minn. Dear Barb I read your item with great interest as Decatur Il was where the GAR was originally founded. My mother, Minnie Reynolds, was the office manager of the American Legion Hall at the time and found the papers. FROM: Decatur Herald and Review Friday, November 15, 1968 LOST GAR CHARTERS FOUND AGAIN the lost again, found again Grand Army of thhe Republic charters have been found again. They were found this time in the office of the american Legion Castle Williams Post 105, 1334 St. Louis Bridge Rd. The charters were referred to in a 1954 story in the Bugle Call, a GAR publication. The story said the charters had been stored in the Millikin Nationl Bank in Decatur. After a thorough investigation, it was decided the story had been in error. The bank did not have the charters. And the search continued. Mrs. C. H. Rollins, secretary and past president of the Ladies of the GAR said she has been looking continuously for them. In 1960, they were found again, this time at the American Legion. But they were mislaid agin until Sunday, when Gordon O. Grace, commander of the American Legion, uncovrred them in an old box. I wanted to hold them in my arms, but they were so dirty. I had to wait until they had been cleaned." said Mrs. Rollins. They have intrinsic value without estimate." she said today. Thursday, she, Gordon and Mrs. Kenneth Mollahon, 1421 E Walnut St., president of the Ladies of the GAR took them to the Millikin Bank to be placed in a vault. The GAR, which had a membership of 409,459 at its peak, and was founded in Decatur and died at Duluth, Minn. with the passing of its last survivor, Albert Woolson. Mrs. Rollins said the Ladies of the GAR have already received inquiries from Washington,D.C. and the Smithsonian Institute desiring the charters. "But I don't want to see them leave Decatur" she said"" I'm not sure whether they are still in Decatur or not, but if any one is interested, please contact the Herald and Review Archives Dept. 601 E. William St. Decatur, IL. 62523 I am sure they could tell you - If you want any copies of anything they charge $5.00 per copy - Send an SASE- Harriet Reynolds Rariden in Deccatur, IL Search names: Reynolds, Rariden, Gunnels, Vest, Greer, Dashiell, Fairhurst (Denver area 1910-1915),
One can imagine the antipication of receiving a civil war photo of a Tioga co. Pa. civil war volunteer and a 3rd great grand father, John K. Kirkpatrick., who died at Antietam in what appeared to be an early skirmish by the bridge..But something is wrong here...This "war-time image" of a young chap, nicely attired in a find hat, sweater, and fancy jacket looks like a banker, not the gaunt lean Clint Eastwood look that so many of the soldiers displayed..This was a young fellow and not the 52 year old father that fell under Burnside. I have asked for confirmation from the donor of this photo and requested from the National Archives military pension. I had assumed, number one mistake in this hobby, that only the wealthy had their posed picture taken and I still don 't know if this is the right guy--Talk about taking it on faith!!!! Beverly
There is a Joseph R. Himes, born 1839, died 1910 who is buried in the Wildwood Cemetery in Brockway, PA. This is my husband, s ggrandfather. We had contacted all his living relatives that we know and no one can find in which regiment he served. He married Elizabeth Miller and while visiting there a few weeks ago, there was an American Flag flying and also his tombstone designates that he was a veteran of this war. There was an obit of him in the Brockwayville newspaper in 1910. Please if anyone has any information on him, I would appreciate you letting me know. Eight cemetery lots were bought by a H. R. Himes and turned over to Joseph Himes in 1910. We are assuming that this was his father. Only Joseph and his wife are buried there. Would be grateful for any info on this family as we are at a dead-end. We just didn't have enough time to stay searching as we live in FL and after a week there going to all the Historical societies that we could find, we had to leave. Pat in FL
Good morning! Thank You to all of you who responded to my request for an obituary from the Elmira paper! I was able to print it and will send the address to family members who were not able to attend the funeral. Thanks so much!! Mimi Hayes

Can someone tell me who has the records for the Nelson Cemetery? I'm looking for the lot # of my grandmother's grave. It never had a tombstone, so is not included in the web page of readings of the headstones. Her name was Lucille "Lula" Bulley/Boule' (Thompson) (Burnley).
