    1. [PABRADFO] New site....
    2. david clark
    3. Hello listers, I had been curious for years about connections from the town for Northampton, Massachusetts to the Tioga - Bradford - Steuben Co. areas. I knew that I had a lot of ancestors that travelled from Mass. to these counties. I recently started a new site called "Early Settlers of Northampton", on which I am attempting to post descendancies from as many of the early inhabitants as I can. In the process of doing these descendancies, I was amazed at the number with Tioga & Bradford. Besides the obvious CLARK surname, there were SHELDON, STRONG & POMEROY descendants who moved to these areas. The site is: http://sites.netscape.net/davec551/homepage Anyone with Northampton roots should check for their surnames. I am uploading a few each day & have 10 surnames online so far, with at least 5 generations for each. Dave Clark Belmont NC

    1. [PABRADFO] Vought family in Rome, PA
    2. Jay DeKing
    3. Hello list, I am living near Bradford County temporarily, and would like to know if anybody is researching the Vought family. Godfrey Vought, one of the Rome pioneers, was an xG-uncle, and Henry Lent was either a cousin or uncle as well. I understand that Godfrey is buried in Rome. Does anybody know if his tombstone is still there? Also, I have heard that Godfrey's parents, Joseph and Christina, followed his son to Rome and died there. There is no mention of Joseph and Christina in the Bradford County histories I have read. There is another Joseph, of a later generation. Any clues? I'm planning a visit to Rome soon to check out the cemeteries. 3. One source would be to try the Mansfield Advertiser newspapers since Mainesburg obits, marriages, etc., would be in that newspaper. Originals are at Mansfield University, but some (don't remember which dates) are in the Rhoda Ladd series and I have not checked to see which ones are on line. Hard copies are indexed. In 1880 he would have been 39 so I would suggest checking the 1880 PA soundex for this family which will list families with children under the age of ten. This will indicate if he had any of the presumed children, provided one or more was under the age of ten. Check the Tioga County, Pennsylvania marriage records at Wellsboro for a marriage of Kate Wells and also her children. Check the 1900 Pennsylvania soundex for Fred Wells. You could also go through all the Harveys in the 1900 Pennsylvania soundex and look for an Ida as the wife of ______ Harvey. Lots of other sources, but these are a few that come to mind. Hope that helps! J. 1. [PABRADFO] Tri-County Update Sunday 7 PM
    2. Hi All, I had a note this evening form Jim Lampila who is on the Town Council for Town of VanEtten. He let me know about a new web site they have put up for that and also one mourning the loss of the VanEtten Hotel to "progress." I linked both of these to the VanEtten Township page so take a look at VanEtten now. I have added a few more flagholders, both as new pages and as additions to existing pages where a new pattern was found. Joyce M. 1. [PABRADFO] Tri-County Update Sunday 10:30 AM
    2. Hi All, I am back from my New Jersey/Pennsylvania "expedition" with a whole new series of flagholder photos for the site. I am still sorting them out but have added a new mystery flagholder to the site in hopes some of you can identify it for me. I also received a new book from Amazon on Secret Societies and Fraternal orders just before I left on Friday so I'll be able to add more information as I have time. My friends in New Jersey have taken to flagholder hunting with a passion and I had trouble getting them to stop long after I was tired out. One good thing about having friends on the search is that someone can hold the flags out for photographing. It is a three handed job and requires some distance. When alone I have to hold the flag out by the corner with my left hand and my left arm crossing in front of me and try to get the camera back far enough to get the whole thing in the view finder and aim and click it with my right hand. It does help that a digital camera has an LCD screen and is not held up to the eye, but still it is quite a trick to do alone and does not always turn out perfect. I'll be adding some new ones later today as I get it all sorted out and catalogued. Joyce M. Tice <A HREF=" http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm ">Tri-Coun ties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice</A>

    2. Dear Friends at Tri County, I need help locating what happened to the wife and children of Frederick H. Wells of Tioga County. He worked in the coal mining field, lived 12/1/1841 to 10/13/1891. Married a woman by the name of Kate mcCann and I don't have any dates for her. My cousin (now dead) thought they had children named Ida, Elizabeth and Fred Wells. Ida married a fellow with the last name of Harvey. The elder Fred is buried with his parents at Mainesburg, Tioga Co., but no evidence of his wife or children there. Maybe she remarried after 1891. Thanks for any advice or help. Margie Bridges

    2. Patricia Wilson
    3. Hi all, My grandmother died of breast cancer at home in Coryland in 1914 and is buried at Roseville. Would there necessarily have been a death record? Vitals at Tioga County Court House do not go back this far. Is there a Methodist church in Roseville? Sure wish there were some Waverly censuses and cemetery listings on line. 1865 Waverly census at Onondaga Library was unreadable. Thanks a lot for any advice. Pat Wilson

    2. William Klauk
    3. It appears that with a little help from a PAERIE list member, the PRESQUE ISLE COMMANERY flagholder that Joyce has had for several days as the mystery marker, is in fact representative of the KNIGHTS TEMPLAR. See the Latin motto in the symbol on this web page - http://www.yorkrite.com/KTlinks.htm - which matches the motto in the middle of the flagholder. The Order of Knights Templar is part of the Masons and is described at http://www.knightstemplar.org/freqaq.html if interested.
