Since South Waverly is in PA and Waverly is in Tioga Co NY you may find the burial in Tioga Co.NY. I know that people from Athens PA are buried in the Factoryville Cemetery (near the Tioga General Hospital) Waverly NY. Ralph Weller
Hi, Rose! 'Shall look it up for you. I shall make a copy of the page if I find it and send it to you snail mail. You can send your address to me at fberry@exotrope.net if I find anything. 'Til then, Faith
Hi, Rose, 'Sorry about that extra "s" last time. :-( There was a rooming house on Exchange Place run by Mary Wells in the 1932 directory. If you like, I can look it up in the '28 and '29 directories at the library this week. I am planning to go there on another errand, so it wouldn't be any trouble. Faith Berry
Hi, Roses! You're almost right..I think. The 1984 City Directory says it runs south from Market Street to a deadend. It merely states there are no houses on it. I have a 1932 directory if the information in it would be of any help.
Exchange Place in Elmira ran from East Water Street to East Market Street. It was between State Street and Baldwin Street...where the Chemung Canal Bank parking lot is now. Faith Berry
Today's edition of Towanda's The Sunday Review has an article written by Guy Abell entitled "Queen Esther -- Indian friend of fiend? It's a discourse about whether or not Esther Montour was present at the Wyoming Massacre and at Bloody Rock. Quite interesting. Mr Abell is a local history buff who writes a guest column for the Review several times each year. I've copied the article. I doubt that Joyce will want to add it to her site because it's purely historical. For you Battle of Wyoming fans who don't have access to the Review, send an EMail and I'll send the article to you. I'm here -- but you're right this list has been very quiet. Must be the "dog days" of summer. I'm still researching the family of Abraham Mace who lived to be more than 100 years of age and is buried in Cole's Farm Cemetery. Hi All Friends and guests of Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice Check out the NEW 1880 Gaines Township census from the Gaines Township page of the site. On an aside for all of you sweltering scorching westerners, it is SO COLD here today that the ice cream stands, which usually open at 11 AM did not open until noon or later. I am wearing long pants, long sleeves, socks and until a short time ago was considering gloves. It is finally warming up a bit but the day is almost gone. Brrrr. Joyce M. I think we are all just researching. Can anyone tell me offhand what newspaper covered Tioga County in 1929? Also, does anyone know where Exchange Place was or is? Thanks, Rose
Thanks guys, got your messages... All seems well Dick -- Plan Your Work... Work Your Plan...
Just a test... haven't had any messages from the list since noon on Thursday. Can't believe everybody's silent. -- Plan Your Work... Work Your Plan...
There was an Exchange Place in Elmira at one time,I believe, but since the flood of 72 it might not be there anymore. They did away with so many streets during the urban renewal program it is hard to say. Also,I would like to find out if there is a way to get an obituary notice from 1929 from Athens.I would also like to get a copy of an accident report from there for my grandfather's death.I don't remember exactly what day it was,but I know it was between July and September and concerned the building of a bridge in East Athens. If anyone can help,I would appreciate it.Thanks. The village of Trumansburg is about 10 miles north of Ithaca on the west side of Cayuga Lake in Tompkins county. To the gentleman who sent in the old unidentified photos, I saved the e-mail in which you sent the photos of the people whom you were trying to identify. I had company at the time and unfortunately one of my grandchildren must have somehow deleted the e-mail. I was just devastated as I think the one photo, I think it was No. 3 (the older couple, man with balding white hair and his wife). I believe them to be Nathan and Catherine White. This is my WHITE lineage: Father: Lewellyn White Grandfather: Leroy White G/Grandfather: Sanford White G/G/Grandfather: William White G/G/G/Grandfather: Nathan White(wife Catherine). I would like to know how you came in possession of the photo and also if you are related to them in some way. I see a resemblance in this man's face to my grandfather and g/grandfather. Also, if you will check out the Pike Twp., Bradford County, PA 1850 Census, they are listed on Page 160. I have pictures of my grandfather and g/grandfather but no further back than that. My father was killed in an auto accident when I was not quite two yrs. old, so this means quite a lot to me. I am a g/grandmother myself now and want to compile everything I can for my family before I am part of history, too. Jean Phyllis (White) Corkins P.S. Hello all, warning: this is only slightly geneaology related! My mother was a Brennan from Monroeton (and later Towanda), Bradford Co, PA; so I was taught to be proud of our Irish (Celtic) roots (the Brennans sailed from Cork, Ireland, to NY in 1848/49.) My first book, Celtic Quilts: A New Look for Ancient Designs, was released in July of 2000 by That Patchwork Place, an imprint of Martingale & Co.; (a second book, Colorwash Bargello, is scheduled to be released in May of 2001.) If anyone is interested, you can see some pictures from the Celtic book at my publisher's website, http://www.patchwork.com/library/books/B439CelticQuilts.htm . More detailed info is also available other places online; www.amazon.com is an easy place to find it--just search on "Beth Ann Williams." Through this list, I've been able to connect with some other Brennans (and other related families). Thank you to all those who have expressed interest in the book, and especially all those Brennan "cousins" out there! Beth Ann Williams
