1. [TriCounty] Jackson Twp. Evang Church Lycoming Co
2. Hi List, Does anyone know anything about a church / school located near Blacks Creek in Jackson Twp., Lycoming Co Pa. I have a copy of an 1873 map that shows a church that just has Evang Ch listed on it. It's located near the Tioga Co border. Other maps list it as a school. It is not the Reed School, although it is not far from there. I'm looking for landmarks so that I can locate my ancestors farm that died in the Civil War. His name was Andrew Dennison. I would also like to know if any church records still exist. Thanks for any help you can give me. God Bless, Kathryn Yoder Cowher Williamsport Pa Researching: Yoder, Yetter, Dennison, Naylor, Moyer, Nuss, Miller, Benner, Crayton, Bertach, Schnell, Vogel, Glockler, McBride.

1. [TriCounty] Non-genealogical - moose
2. Joyce Angotti
3. Forgive me, list, its a rainy day in Maine and I just have to respond to those looking for moose or is it meese? I'm sorry there seems to be a lack of this critters elsewhere but believe me, there are so many here!! How many would you like? You will have to pay for the shipping, however. I had hoped Joyce would get to see one - from afar. They are almost like ants up here in the north Maine woods - they are big, dumb and very destructive when one happens to run into one. Especially this time of year. They looks like a product of nature's garbage can - or recycled parts of left-over creatures when the good Lord was creating them!! We have a lot of accidents in the spring and fall - they appear out of nowhere and the eyes do not reflect light - so it is easy to run into one, they are so dark.. We drive in the middle of the road whenever possible, in moose territory - that way you have a chance to avoid hitting one when they come from the roadside. Because man's mission seems to be to pave every square inch of land possible - so's to be able to get back to nature - we have cut them off from their access to waterways etc. Black flies drive them crazy in the spring - love drives them crazy in the fall - hmmmm. Not too different from us Maniacs!! If you feel the need to see a moose, come to Millinocket. Regards to all, and apologies for the non-genealogical topic. Joyce in Maine

3. Dear Joyce Greetings from NH. I could feel the energy level in the state go up when you came through. I am a fan of the Tri-County website and visit nearly daily. I am a native of Tompkins County with lots of family in Chemung and Tioga county. I was looking for page 129 and 130 of the obituary clippings but coundn't find them. Regarding moose, I've been in New Hampshire 12 years and have yet to see one. It's one of my goals. Unfortunately the signs tell the truth. Recently a young girl was killed on Rt. 93 when her mother hit a moose. During this time of the year they can come charging across all roads and barriers in search of lady friends. Thank you for all your hard work. Claire Smith ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! 1. [TriCounty] Tri-County Bad News
2. Hi All, In Sullivan Township there is an old burial ground of the Baker family on Route 6 just west of the Bradford County/Tioga County boundary. At one time it contained about 30 to 40 tombstones, never recorded. Some years (decades) back the landowner bulldozed the stones into the hedge row where they have been picked off over time. Yesterday I went by and to my horror saw that a house is being built directly on the burial ground. Its foundation has penetrated the cemetery and without doubt disentombed some of the burials. I called a couple of the township officials this morning. They, of course, had no knowledge that this was a burial ground and are as distressed as any of us. I am sure the persons building the house are also not aware that they are on top of, actually in, a cemetery. I doubt anything can be done. But my purpose is only to remark on the tragedy. I did point out to the township officials that a listing of the lost and unmarked burials of Sullivan Township is on my site. This is probably incomplete but was done to the best of my knowledge on unmarked burials. Now they will print it out and look at it. But the horse is out of the barn - or rather the graves are out of the ground. This same thing should be done for every township and the responsible authorities made aware before another such disaster occurs. Joyce M. 2. Hi All Friends and Guests of Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice \ I have just uploaded the 1818, 1819, and 1820 Tax lists for Smithfield Township. You can reach them from the Smithfield Township page of Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice Kelsey has been working on the Wells Tax lists for almost a year, and Pat has been chipping away at Smithfield and intends to do some other townships as well, but it is slow work. I'd be VERY HAPPY if some of the others of you would adopt a township and use the example set by Kelsey and Pat in making these valuable tax lists available to the site . (hint, hint) They copy the original listings at the Bradford County Historical Society and then transcribe them in Excel. Similar listings are available for Tioga and Chemung Counties as well. 1. [TriCounty] Tri-County Site additions - Wed. 8 AM
2. Hi All, I have added several new flagholder pages to the Flagholder section of the site. I also added some insignias to the Methodist Church flagholder page and the State Police flagholder page. You can reach the flagholder section fromthe front page of Tri-Counties Genealogy & History Sites of Joyce M. Tice What I found in the area of Canada (New Brunswick) that I visited, is that flagholders are RARE. Instead organizational and military insignia are engraved on the tombstone. Unfortunately my photo day there was COLD, rainy and dark and most of the tombstones are black granite. This combination set the flash off and that made it worse because it created glare. Anyway, I did collect quite a few insignia that will be showing up on the site. Also, I'd appreciate it very much if any of the Canadian members of our Tri-County Site's mail list cold tell me if this is typical in the other provinces of Canada. Are flagholders common elsewhere? Or is it true that throughout Canada, the engraved insignias are used instead. Yesterday I had an odd experience. I stopped in a very large cemetery in Syracuse near the client I was seeing. It was really huge, but although I did not cover the whole cemetery I found about seven flagholders. They really were not common at all. I have had this experience before, but the odd thing was that of the seven or so, three were flagholders I never saw before. Now that is ODD. You can just never predict what you are going to find in a cemetery. I often go by one and say it is not worth going in to and then find something absolutely brand new. There's jus no guessing.
