Can someone tell me how or where to get information on Charles Marmor[e] burried in Lee Cemetery, Chatham in 1910? He lived in Deerfield in 1908 and was a Carpet Weaver in Academy Corners. Need to know where he died to look for death certificate. researching: Marmor(e), Pope, Pond, Gnau all from Tioga county. What I know about Evans is my GG-grandmother was Elizabeth Evans who married John Roberts. I know that they were in Wilkes-Barre Pa around the turn of the century as my G-grandfather was born in 1900 in Wilkes-Barre. I do know that his family owned the Pomeroy's building and later sold it to them. They were also strict Catholics. I have heard a story that my g-grandfather's brother john heard about one of the relatives dying but had to claim residency in Canada before he could receive the large inheritance. My G-grandfather, Charles J. Roberts, moved to Sayre, Pa in 1915; my G-grandmother, Pauline Lucy McNeal, moved to Sayre in 1917. The two married and Charles was disowned from his family because she was protestant and not catholic. Oh and a correction, this is on my Father's side. He is a little chart I made to show the relationships: John Roberts m. Elizabeth Evans Charles J. Roberts m. Pauline Lucy McNeal Charles F. Roberts m. Beatrice Talada Michael D. Roberts m. I am lost and have nowhere to go. Jackson Parks reportedly was born in Bradford County. He was the wayward son of Isaac Parks, son of Isaac Parks, son of Steven Parks. He married Elizabeth Guise (another of my mysteries) and they moved to White Haven, Luzerne County where they raised their family and died. I believe Jackson was born about 1810 based on census records and date of death on his tombstone. Has anyone every heard of this Park family. Even the Park association has never heard of him. Thanks Judy
Hi Listers, Could someone tell me how often the state census were donein Pa?And where would a person go to view these census.Thank you. nancy
Hello One of my ancestors had large parcels of property in Tioga County in the early 1800's even though they were of modest means. Is anyone aware of any Land Grants available about that time...perhaps in an interest to encourage settlements, etc. I ask this knowing that there were boundary disputes between New York and Vermont in the late 1700's after the Revolutionary War when the Vermont Sufferers were awarded land to settle such disputes. Alternatively, in the early 1800's, were Developers buying up large tracts of land for the resources (timber, coal, etc) and making arrangements with settlers to clear the land in return for ownership? As a California State Employee AND someone who does genealogy research, I have some mixed feelings about this. Recently (April-May) someone was able to hack into a computer at the State Controllers office and gained access to a database containing payroll deduction information for all California State employees. This database contained our first and middle intial, Last name and Social Security number. With this information, all someone needs is to get our birth date and they can recreate an identity. I believe in preserving the confidentiality of information on persons still living, however the records for people who are deceased should be made available upon request to people who have a legitimate reason for accessing that information. (Genealogy being a legitimate reason) Currently, (as I understand it) if one signs a form giving certain information (including a social security number) a person can gain access to birth records of persons born up through the present (well, up to about 1995-1998 I believe) This presents a problem for those of us whose personal information may have been compromised. I believe some kind of legislation should be enacted, but still allow access to records after X number of years (like the census does). Unfortunately the electronic age, while making research much easier and faster, has also made it possible for high tech criminals to steal information that would allow them to steal your identity. Please call, fax, and e-mail ALL MEMBERS OF THE CALIFORNIA SENATE TODAY and ask for their DO NOT PASS vote on SB1614. The bill, sponsored by Senator Jackie Speier, seeks to remove California's birth and death indices from the public domain, where they have been generally available to the public since 1905. SB1614 is now on a fast track through the California State Senate at the behest of Governor Gray Davis. To facilitate its supersonic trajectory past any public review, it has been amended recently into a wildcard placeholder that reads in its entirety: "It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to protect the confidentiality of birth and death record indices." But there is no doubt that the final result will turn the Birth and Death Indices into closely guarded state secrets. SB1614 will hinder efforts to overcome secrecy in government. It bodes no good for citizens who want to access government-held information on their own histories and identities. It would create a right of confidentiality that would be a substantial setback for open records efforts in California. This bill would also block legitimate genealogical and historical research, population studies and public policy research. And it will do little to help the problem it was intended to address. According to the First Amendment Coalition, most identity theft occurs through the literal theft of mail, purses, and wallets by friends, relatives, neighbors, and strangers - not through use of the birth and death indices. Is anyone researching the Hoyt line? Am confused on records I have found previous. Darius (1825) supposedly son of Hezron & Abigail (Beers) and Rufus, Soloman, Johnathan (1835), Nathaniel & Benjamin sons of Hezron & Naomi (Stanton) Hoyt. But in 1850 census Susq. Co. Middletown it shows a Jno (abt 1800) & Mary Hoyt, living next door to Darius & Lydia (Brister), and next to them Nathan age 26, James 24, Mary 26, Jane 1. How does this Jno & Mary fit in to the line? Benjamin is buried in Middletown Cem., never could figure why. Leah Millard

Speaking of Old Photographs, How does one "harvest" the thousands of old photos at the Bradford County Historical Society from long distance? One of their customers said they are all "neatly cataloged," but is there an indexed listing of the names of people in the photographs that could be made available online? Is there any photo service in Towanda that can turn these into prints? Are there any projects underway to turn the photos into digital images? I am speaking of the "reprints of Ott & Hay Photographic Glass Negatives - 13,500 glass plate negatives 1890 to 1905 from Ott and Hay studio in Towanda, all labeled. Includes photos of residents throughout Bradford County." Bill Benson p.s. for more on glass plate negatives see: http://www.daytonhistory.org/glass_neg.htm - NCR owns 100,000! I did find some of my family pictures at an antique shop in Interlaken, NY when I was visiting my mother. I was idly leafing through some antique photos when I thought some looked familiar. There was a photo album with no pictures but one of the pages was labeled, Ruth Rogers Jones' great grandfather. I found that a cousin didn't want them anymore and sold pictures and the photo album. I hope I got the most important ones. Later the cousin shared some pictures that she had saved out with another cousin and me. What a heritage that we could have missed! I plan to make copies and give to my siblings for the family looseleaf notebook that I'm giving to them a few pages at a time. Ruth Lothers

I agree with Sue Perry 100%, I also have used the SAMPUBCO web site several times and have been well satisfied with and thankful for David Samuelson’s efforts. I believe that the "rough around the edges" comment is caused by his efforts to get people to follow directions, I know that he probably spends a lot of time trying to correct screwed up orders. I belong to a lot of genealogy lists and if seeing people trying to unsubscribe from the lists is any indication, people do not follow instructions. That is my two cents worth. I feel better already! OK, I'm back. Had success with my previous posting requesting identification of unknown individuals, so here is my next request : Photos below are of Clark family reunions from 1909 and 1915. These Clarks were originally from Knoxville, Academy Corners, Westfield, Wellsboro (Tioga County, Pa) areas. Some eventually moved to Painted Post and Corning, NY areas. If anyone can identify ANY individuals, please let me know... www.clarks.i8.com/clark_family_reunion_1909.html www.clarks.i8.com/clark_family_reunion_1915_whole.html Thanks ! Hello Tom, We think there is a good possiblity that in the photo of the four women that the older lady could be Clemintine Goodenough Adams, wife of James Royal Adams. They are the great grandparents. The other lady standing looks familiar but in looking at our photos we can not detemine who she is. The one sitting with baby we do not have a clue. It would be interesting to know if your relative knew this family from Chemung and Elmira, NY Pat P.S. Just found a good photo of Clemintine's sister, Bessie Goodenough Sartor. Her husband Henry was a professional photogropher here in Elmira. The two women look like their daughter, Kate (sitting with baby) and Bessie, standing next to mother. This seems to be a better indentification than what I first gave you.
