    2. I checked Steele Memorial for the 1959 issue but they only had one from 1959 but it didn't have the stories that are being looked for. The library does have a lot of the "The Settler's", the earliest I think was in 1957. Sherry > > Have you tried the Tioga Co. 1. [Tri-Counties] Many "Settler" Issues in Libraries
    2. Bill Benson
    3. Hello all, Please don't forget libraries when you do your research. As I reported when I helped put Fay Morgan's INDEX of several SETTLER issues on Joyce's site <SEE http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/books/setinde2.htm > it is in several libraries, as well as the Bradford County Historical Society. An interlibrary loan request at your local library (citing OCLC Number: 6684424) may well have produced the desired article. Some branches of the Bradford County Library hold issues. To contact them see http://www.bradfordcountylibrary.org/syslibs.html The following libraries own sections of "The Settler:" In Pennsylvania: Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, 1- 1952-to date James V Brown Library, Williamsport, 1- 1952-to date Mansfield University, Mansfield, 15- 1977-to date State Library of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg; v.7- 1969-to date Some copies are also held by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, Harrisburg; the Pennsylvania State University, University Park; and the University of Pittsburgh. In New York: Onondaga Co Pub Library, Syracuse, 1-5 1952-to date(?) Steele Memorial Library, Elmira, 6- 1961-to date New York State Historical Assn Library, Cooperstown, 1-6 1952-1961 In IL, WI, OH and MI: Winnetka-Northfield Pub Library District, Winnetka, IL, 1953-1959 (incomplete) State Historical Society of Wisconsin Library, Madison WI, v.1-v.23, v.30-v.36 1952-1997 Milwaukee Public Library, Milwaukee WI, 13- 1975-to date Also some issues held by: Western Reserve Historical Society Library, Cleveland OH; Flint Public Library, Flint MI. I too would love to see the Settler put online, however. Regards, Bill Benson Librarian & Son of Bradford County

    1. [Tri-Counties] The Settler
    2. I have the January 1959 issue and see an article with the Hartley Expedition featured. There also is an article featuring John Frfanklin. I will call the Bradford County Library in Burlington, and if they do not have this issue, I will get one to them. As to Col. Matthaias Hollenback, I found a lengthy scetch of him in the November 1955 issue. You may have read that article. As before, If the Bradford County Library in Burlington doesn't have this issue, I will see that they get it. Answer me directly. Fay Tiller Morgan [email protected]

I don't remember seeing the Settler Newsletter in the Chemung Valley Museum Research Room in Elmira, NY but they also my be a good place to look. Have not seen this particular literature in the Steele Memorial Library in Elmira, but that doesn't mean it is not there. Pat Wainwright of Chemung Co., NY

    2. Catherine Comeau
    3. I am seeking a copy of a 1959 Settler Newletter which was printed by the Bradford County Historical Society. It has two items of great interest to me with my research. A sketch about Col. Matthias Hollenback and an article about the Families who escaped the Wyoming Massacre. This seems to be the only issue the Bradford County Historical Society does not have. The Tioga Point Museum is also missing this particular issue. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sign up for SBC Yahoo! Dial - First Month Free http://sbc.yahoo.com

    2. Also, I note that there are time I can not reach the site's main page at all, and the counters have not been working. Site use is down significantly, so I assume others of you are having similar problems. I can only attributer it to the changes in process on the Rootsweb server. Be patient until I figure it out or they work it out. Joyce M. Tice <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History</A>

    1. [Tri-Counties] PICO Search Engine
    2. Hi All, Thanks to all of you who notified me that the PICO search engine is not working. I reindexed it successfully on July 7 with 7304 pages on site. All looks well. As you know, I house most of my site on the Rootsweb server in California, and they have been undergoing some system changes that have caused some disruptions. It may be that causing the problem, but I am reindexing it again now to see if that fixes the problem. I'll check it out once I get my notice that the reindexing is completed - it takes several hours, so I may not get to it until morning. Thanks again for notifying me. Joyce M. Tice <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-Counties Genealogy & History</A>

    3. oops! the Rootsweb servers aren't in California and has not since Feb 2000. They're in Provo Utah. Picosearch is not only one with the problem, Several other kinds of search engines used by others reported same thing. The RW should finish by end of this week. The biggest portion they had to move was the Archives group - now on two servers. 1. [Tri-Counties] Genealogical information for living persons ?
    2. Peggie, Thanks. You bring up a good point about a 'password protected' web site. That might be an interesting option. Like I mentioned earlier, my web site isn't listed in the internet search engines, but it could be accessed by anyone if they knew the URL. Does anyone know how to 'password protect' a web site ? Is it possible to convert an unprotected site to a protected one ? Tom C.

    1. [Tri-Counties] Re: Genealogical information for living persons ?
    2. OK, thanks. I think the key word here might be 'public', though. My web site was designed for the viewing pleasure of family members only. I have done searches on all the major internet search engines, and I do NOT get a 'hit' pointing to my web site, so I'm not sure if my site would qualify as 'public'. Just to be safe, though, I think I will take the advice of all who have responded, and remove the photos, names, birth dates of all living persons on my web site. Thanks to all for your input. Tom C.

    1. [Tri-Counties] (Tri-Counties) Genealogicial Information for Living Persons
    2. Tom: I believe that the general policy is NOT to list the living. That is certainly the policy at the LDS Family Search Site. >From my personal point of view, I do not list the living and would not want anyone else to list me. One of the questions asked by credit companies and banks for identification is "mother's maiden name". We don't need this information on the internet. I think it would be prudent to remove the names of your living relatives from your web site unless you have specific permission from them. Betty Garro
