Hi, I'm new to the list. Looking for any info or connections to the following family. 1850 Athens Boro, Bradford County, PA census name age sex occupation POB HH page Ryan James 44 M Laborer IRE 45 294 Ryan Julia 44 F IRE 45 294 Ryan Joanna 20 F CAN 45 294 Ryan Michael 16 M Laborer NY 45 294 Ryan Daniel 14 M NY 45 294 Ryan Jere* 11 M PA 45 294 Ryan Ellen 8 F PA 45 294 Ryan John 3* M PA 45 294 Ryan James 6m M PA 45 294 Jere married Margaret A. Chamberlain and left the Catholic Church. I have some of Jere's descendants—Edward D., (b. 1859, Port Jervis, NY d. 1922 Merrill, WI) was the oldest. He had 2 sisters one of whom married a Kelly and lived in PA. Brothers included George, Michael, John, Daniel—maybe more. Edward's surviving children were Daisy Adele Ryan (m. Elliot Mole, lived in NY) and Leslie Edward. I also have an obit for a Mary Ryan of Athens that I found on Joyce Tice's site. Unfortunately there is no date or newspaper cited. She was a cousin of Edward's. I'd love to connect with anyone who suspects a connection Margaret

Hi, I just wanted to reach any descendants of Dr. Christopher Tobey that I may not have yet found. I have just finished a family book entitled "Miandia Tobey's Diary". She was a daughter of Dr. Christopher Tobey and mentioned many many relatives and friends in the area of Caton, Steuben County, New York. I've transcribed and annotated her diaries from 1850 to 1886, included some letters and pictures of relatives. It's actually just a fun book to read. I'm about to submit it for printing but can only afford to print the amount for which I have orders. Please contact me if you're interested and I'll send you a list of people mentioned in the diary and the price. It is 490 pages, 8 1/2 x 11, hardbound, indexed. I'm sending this both to Steuben County and the Chemung County lists since Caton is so close to Corning and Elmira. As is the case in these types of books, there is no profit in this for me, just the joy of preserving the records.....hope you enjoy it too! Sandra http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~explor19/tobey.htm

WHAT A COINCIDENCE ! Here I am a 50-year Hank Williams fan and I also have been doing genealogy work using the "Tri-Counties" web site (which includes Chemung County in New York State where my Grandfather Albert Peterson and Uncle Albert Peterson were born) - AND here I receive a show schedule for Jett Williams and the Drifting Cowboys via the Tri-Counties web site..... unbelievable to me ......(and even makes me think of Roaring Branch, PA in the area being the home of one of the Drifting Cowboys [was it Bob McNett?] and Hank doing shows in Sunset Park, PA)..... (a blind copy of this message is being sent to all of the Hank Fans on my e-mail list)......"Bess" - are you a Hank fan and do you want to be on my ALL HANK FAN mailing list? Does anyone have access to this book to check to see if there are any other reference to any Drown families? A friend from this about Wm Drown in "Early Times on the Susquehanna" by Mrs.George A Perkins written I think 1870.....anyway Chapter 26 - Soldiers "When called upon in 1812, to resist British aggression again, they were some what prepared for the conflict. Several Volunteer companies went from this region to the Canada lines, the seat of the war. Captain Julius Tozer, with three of his sons, Julius, Samuel and Guy, were among the number; together with Elishama Tozer, Daniel Satterlee, John Brown William Drown, Samuel Baldwin, several of the name of Wilson, four named Ellis and several from neighboring towns; all attached to the regiment of Colonel Dobbins" Thank you, Marilyn bess

Greetings to all from wicked hot Maine! Quite some time ago - perhaps even a year or two - someone on the list shared a website which had aerial views of Bradford County. They were fantastic - and I continued on with them on into the State of Maine - even saw my truck parked in the driveway!! It was not a mapquest site - and when the virus hit my computer - sure lost a lot of great addresses etc. I have tried the search engines to no avail. Would anyone recall this address and share it with me? I specially enjoyed the view of Big Pond, Penna. and my parent's cottage on Lake Ondawa! Thanks, Joyce in Maine
Antrim is in Tioga County PA. I would not sent this to the list, but want to make sure no one is mislead. All of this can be found using the search engine on the Tri-Counties site. Please be sure you know what is on the site before asking the mail list. It saves us all a lot of time if you use the site first. The main address for the site for Tioga, Bradford, and Chemung Counties is <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-County Genealogy Site of Joyce M. Tice</A> Or just copy and past http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm. Lots of the answers to your questions are already there. The site's search engine works on place names as well as personal names. If you are not familiar with the site's content and structure now is the time to do it. It is an entire library on line available to you in your own time and place. Best wishes to you all, Joyce M .Tice <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/jmtindex.htm">Tri-County Genealogy Site of Joyce M. Friends, I have three families that lost several members, mostly children in November and December of 1862. Does anyone know what type of epidemic occurred in the Bradford/Sullivan area during that time? Thank you, Alice
In the very early years of Bradford County, James Dewey Sr moved with his family to the South Creek-Ridgebury area. About 1818, he became very involved with the Baptist Church in Wellsburg,NY. His second wife (her second marriage also) was Patience VanCamp. Almost all of his family is buried in the churchyard just to the left of the church under the very large trees. Even his son James Jr.. and his wife Mehetible are buried there. I cannot find his burial place anywhere (he died in 1829), and almost assume that perhaps when they rebuilt an enlarged church a number of years ago, perhaps his grave became unmarked. Are there any other records that are available that would tell me if perhaps they are buried in the church yard other than the list posted? His first wife was Peninah, and I almost think she may also be buried there as well. If anyone has information regarding the above dilemma or the above mentioned people, Please advise. thank you so much. Jean Bond [email protected]
I have looked since 1980 for a place in Veteran that might have early records and to date have found none. I visited the town historian and clerk but nothing seemed to be available. My ancestor Truman K Cornell was there as early as 1828 or thereabouts. He owned several properties. He had two daughters that married into the family Groom, the son and grandson of William Groom or Groome, Sr. His second wife the mother of all known Children was Sarah Catharine Sawyer the daughter of Harmon and Sarah White Sawyer.00 In 1830 and 1835 there are other Cornell families there-Issac,Israel. Michael, etc. Does anyone have any inf on these families? Thank you Marilyn Bess ----- Original
Hello Myrtle, Would be very happy to help you with your quest in finding your gggrandmother. Sullivanville is in the Town of Veteran. I was checking around our museum today but did not find anything so far in our records. Never knows where one will find info on family. Do you know where the Ramsdell Family came from? Have you looked in their original home area for the grave? Here is an example of looking in the original place of family. My grandmother's first husband died in Barton, Tioga Co., NY in 1900 after the Census was taken. They were originally from Worcester Co., Mass. He was sent back there for burial. It was in the records at the Town Clerk's office. I don't know if the Town Clerk of Veteran would have records back that far. Perhaps some one else on the list would have the answer to the above. Don't give up hope. The answer to where she is buried is out there some place. Pat Wainwright

Pat and Edna, I recently visited Mitchell's Corners Cemetery on my annual pilgrimage to Chemung County. The Cemetery is on Thayer Road, about 100 yards from the intersection with Wyncoop Creek Road. The town (or some kind soul) has made some recent improvements to the cemetery by installing a nice flag pole and steps made of railroad ties and rebar spikes. Before this recent installation, accessing the cemetery required the visitor to be kissing cousin to a mountain goat. When I visited at the end of July, however, the cemetery was slightly overgrown - but not seriously. I found my ancestor's headstone (Judieth Joslin Carnrike - am curious who replaced her stone in the 1960's) and am truly curious as to who Admiral Wickham was. His grave is the first you encounter at the top of the steps. Anyone have a clue? Joyce Raleigh, NC
Does anyone have an address (either E-mail, or street) for Chester P. Bailey? I just received a small book that he wrote in 2000 called "Tioga Mountaineers". It is a short history of Company 'B', 101st PA Volunteer Infantry which was raised in Mansfield. It has numerous mentions of several of my Mansfield & Richmond Twp. ancestors - Lt. Col. Melvin L. Clark, Justus Burr Clark Jr., Edwin B. Clark, John J. Beach among others. Thanks for any help!
