Dear Roland, I would have sent this to you via your e-mail, but I misplaced your address. Waterman H. McIntyre is listed as a freeman on the wells tax book. Apparently, in order to become a freeman, he had to be approved by the other freemen in the area. Do you know of any records, concerning freemen, in wells twp. 1820-23? Would that kind of information be a matter of record for voting purposes? Was there a voter registration for that period of time? How did they verify someone was able to vote? If Waterman's (gs) is correct he would have turned 21 on 11 April 1822. Thanks in advance for your time and advice, Dan McIntyre ------------------------------------------------------ [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Pike Online, Inc.]
I don't know the difference to your Freedman/Freeman question, but if you check out the site www.familysearch.org, and click the download/order products/ click Immigration & Freedman you will see the they have to offer on the Freedman CD. This is the description of the Freedman CD. Description The Freedman's Bank was created to assist newly freed slaves during and after the Civil War. The records cover the time period from about 1864 to 1871 and document the names and family relationships of those who used the bank. While the information contained in these records is very incomplete by normal genealogical standards, they are some of the very few records that document these individuals and are a vital source of information for those with African American ancestry. There are approximately 480,000 names in the file, which have been entered in a pedigree-linked GEDCOM format. Hi, When I went on line with Ellisisland.org, I found my Aunt who came from Germany in 1910. She later married an American citizen and then went back for a visit to Germany in 1922. I found when I read her passenger list in 1922 that she was naturalized in Toledo and the note "by marriage" with a number following it. Does the number mean I have her naturalization #? If it shows the town where she was born, then I have a clue as to where my grandparents were married. I have my Mom"s birth certificate, but as she was the youngest of her siblings and was born in a different part of Germany, that records gives no clue as to where my grandparents were from. Greetings all: I have researched the "State Road" and found this explanation : History of Bradford County by H. C. Bradsby, 1891 Chapter XI - Roads The "State Road " passed through the county from northeast to south west. It was provided for by the Legislature in 1807; Henry Donnell and George Haines, commissioners. As provided for, it passes through Pike and Wysox townships crossing the river at Towanda, following up Sugar creek to East Troy, and on to Covington, in Tioga county. He was mortally shot by a deer hunter while clearing brush in 1808. Says he lived in Claverack (Wysox?).. Does anyone know what road that might be ? Also, I am thinking that if he had a contract, I wonder if the "official" copy exists somewhere ?? Any leads very helpful. Thanks for the very good directions to the Keene Summit Rd. Pat Wainwright of Chemung Co., NY
Pat, Keene Summit Rd. Pennsylvania, Bradford County Traveling east on Rt. 6 Keene Summit Road is a left turn about halfway between Towanda and Wyalusing. After leaving Towanda, abt. 5 miles you pass Claverack Electric building on your right. Keene Summit Rd. is the next hard road to the left, about 2-3 miles from Claverack building. Hi Everyone, The Bradford County Library at Burlington, PA, is sponsoring a meeting once a month at the library to discuss genealogy. The meetings are the last Monday in the month from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The last one lasted a lot longer than that, and I don't believe everyone left the library until after 9:00 PM, which is closing time for the library. It is mostly a discussion group, but it establishes contacts for all of us, and we did find a few people that were researching the same families. Some of the people at the meetings have been doing research for years and know about some resources that are very interesting. I also found out that there are still people out there doing family research without the use of a computer. Just thought I would let people on the list know in case there were some of you that haven't seen this listed in the newspaper. Pat Raymond
