I have a couple of old (undated) family photos taken at the studio of B.L. Wright, in Troy, PA. The photos were probably taken in the 1860-1880 timeframe but I'd like to have a better estimate of their age. Can someone tell me what year Wright's studio opened in Troy, or when it closed? I have a copy of the 1869 Beers atlas, and for Canton Borough it lists "B. Wright P. Gallery" at the corner of Towanda and Troy streets. This may be another listing for the B.L. Wright that operated the photo studio in Troy Borough. Not sure. Paul Newell Ellicott City, MD

Hi Everyone, If you have written to me in the last month or six weeks and haven't gotten an answer, please write again. I have been having computer problems which hopefully are fixed now (one repaired & one new), but I have lost a lot of my old e-mail addresses and all of the letters I had saved in my filing cabinet. I had saved quite a few letters, because I had not gotten to Towanda this summer to do much of any research. Long story why, won't go into it here. So please, if I neglected to get back to you let me know. Pat Raymond

Hello, Here's the promised update. The news is good! Joseph aka Jack is home and seems to be doing fine. Thanks to all who helped and healing vibes to you or anyone you know who needs them. I would like to add a thank you to each of you who responded by email to me. The first day I tried to respond to each of you individually but could not keep up with the flow. I visualized all those healing thoughts and prayers as coming from all over the world and converging on the hospital in Houston. Powerful image! Now I imagine him and his family frolicking on the beach, and finding wonderful shells, here in Belize again, all in good health. Only on one list did a couple of people see fit to flame me, though I suppose others are annoyed and to you I apologize. Below are Joseph/Jack's grandmother's comments: cheers, Jude Joseph/Jack's family is feeling Blessed and happy. Joseph/Jack had his kidney procedure late on the 5th, his Doctor had great eyes and ability. Doctor found the bleed in the posterior of the left kidney and was able to seal the bleed with a Laser. Doctor said this could be a short term fix, or it could hold. If the kidney starts bleeding again, the location has been located and another more permanent procedure can be done, if or when needed. We all cheered and danced when Joseph/Jack finally on the 6th had clean clear urine, for the first time in 5 years. The Laser sealing is still holding, and we have faith it will hold for a very long time. Joseph/Jack is one strong trooper, his procedure was delayed 3 hrs due to number of difficult cases before him. He slept calmly with a IV during the waiting time. Joseph/Jack was is severe pain after the procedure, but the Doctors had good drugs to control the pain fairly well for him. He was so sweet and nice in recovery, always thanking the nurse for his help. Amazing while we were waiting for his urine output, we had a view of beautiful tall columns like stair steps high in the sky way across the street, with streams of clear water falls down each column, and our Joseph/Jack had his own clear stream of urine, and we all felt like climbing those steps in thanks to heaven and all the great people that sent up good prayers for Joseph/Jack. Joseph/Jack carried with him a many good charms, one being a 25 cent coin from Belize. For you that read of Gramma's answer/gift of shells on the beach, the Doctor used so many medical terms to describe what he did, but did say with his finger tips together, the kidney is like a shell (Gramma smiled). Then in our room the soap dish was a ceramic fan shell shape............hm a pause of deep thought, and warm fuzzy feeling. We are truly Blessed, to have great people around the world, helping us with prayers and good positive thoughts and feelings. Many thanks to our Belize Jude for getting the request out to so many good people. One relieved Gramma ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hello friends, I know this is off topic. If you object please flame me privately. A friend of mine has a beloved young - he turned 14 yesterday - grandson, Joseph aka Jack. He is also very ill with a rare and puzzling critical condition involving his kidneys. Tomorrow (Sept 5th) he will undergo medical interventions and will be evaluated for a kidney transplant should those interventions prove inadequate. I am appealing to each of you to direct your healing prayers, thoughts, wishes, vibes, etc (whatever fits your views) toward medical success and regained health for this young man. Please join me and others in making a concerted effort to bathe Joseph, the Children's Hospital in Houston, TX, his Drs and his family in healing vibes and prayers from around the world. Please also feel free to pass this message along to your friends, prayer groups or whatever. Let's all concentrate our efforts toward the medical success and regained health, and the chance to continue his own genealogy into the future for this young man. I met Joseph early this year when he visited Belize with his family. He loved this island and I fervently hope that he can return soon in good health. As I've been typing dawn has streaked the horizon and burst forth with a magnificent rainbow. a great omen, I' sure! Below are some excerpts from recent emails from his grandmother. I'll post an update when I have one. Thanks ever so much, Jude in Belize ----- Forwarded Message ----- Jude, sending you a copy of this email to my daughter, so you will know where my heart and faith dwells. Jude, Grandson has been rescheduled in Houston for Thursday Sept. 5 instead of 3rd. Best wishes from <Joseph/Jack's Grandmother> Hi, happy labor day. Spent today on the beach, that is my place of worship. I got many good messages on that beach today, awesome. Wonderful place to pray and listen. One can sing really loud out there, even if you can't sing, only God and the sea gulls hear me. I wrote our prayer in the sand dunes and all of our names, for all to see, even if the spirit guides were not listening. Jumped off low dunes, like Joseph did, could see him flying off those dunes, with sister and brother giggling and laughing. Found a patch of small greenery growing, that looked like an oriental perfect jade plant. I framed it with a heart shape in the sand with Joseph's name. Looked at trash, to find colors and words, all good positive colors in the trash, and a Aquafinia label intact on a small water bottle, but the top half of bottle had been cut off. I asked for a good message and got it, a strange man stopped in a white old beat up pickup and talked to me, telling where the fish were biting, then he said wait, he got out and took 4 shells from the bed of his truck. They were the big hand size fan shaped type, he handed them to me with each set facing together as if the sea critter was still in them, but empty. Odd way to hand them, when nested inside one another would have been easier. I held them, and look down, shaped much like two good kidneys............very touching. He drove off with is buddy. He was about 40 blonde hair with marble size bump on his chin to the side. Scruffy type of guy bare chest with dark blue new jeans. He will never know the message he delivered. Bless him. Love you, Mom <Joseph/Jack's Grandmother>
<< What is the definition of a freedman/freeman in the 1820 era >> Dan, One interesting note I saved (origin unknown) adds a thought after the usual definition: "Freeman - As used in Pennsylvania Archives, meant a young man not yet married. In New England this could also refer to a man with "full rights" in the community; i.e., allowed to vote or transact business. If the town you just moved to didn't think you were responsible, they didn't have to let you vote on matters. Sounds like a way to maintain control... a very Puritan way of doing things given the experiences of some of those who came after the first colonists." It seems to me that it is an early form of new voter registration. :) Marcia
Hi, I hope someone else answers this question, but I think that in this area on the tax records men were listed as Freemen/Freedmen when they were old enough to pay taxes. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that in this area it had nothing to do with slavery. Pat Raymond
Hi Dan, Waterman McIntyre is not listed as a freeman on the 1823 assessment list nor any of the Wells assessment lists. I transcribed the assessment lists and checked my copies and what is on the website. J. Kelsey Jones [email protected] > List, > What is the definition of a freedman/freeman in the 1820 > era?
