LONGINIOUS J. MILLER Sabbath Rest, Pa. June 4, 1886 ---------------- CITY AND COUNTRY The democratic county committee will meet in this city on Saturday next. Sarah Marie, infant daughter of John and Mary Garrity, died Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, aged 1 year. We regret to learn that Mr. A. J. Jamison, one of Lycoming county's good and substantial farmers, is seriously ill. Little hopes of his recovery are entertained. Elsewhere in this issue appears the announcement of W. A. Ambrose, esq., of this city, as a candidate for district attorney, subject to republican rules. Mr. Ambrose is a first-class citizen and a good lawyer, and would make an excellent district attorney. The annual convention of the Sate Miners' association will be held in this city on the 15th of July. The most important business to be transacted will be the election of officers for the ensuing year. Delegates from all portions of the estate are expected to be present. Mr. Simon Potter, of this city, has been appointed by the postoffice department an extra letter carrier under Postmaster Patton. One of the regular carriers being off duty, Mr. Potter has been for the past few days been hard at work. In the United States court at Pittsburgh yesterday an argument on exceptions to assignee's report of a sale of lands belonging to William M. Lloyd, in Letcher county, Ky., was held. Judge Acheson dismissed the exceptions and confirmed the sale absolutely. Charles Smith, aged 57, a native of Ireland but for years a resident of this country, died on Wednesday night, at the home of Daniel Noonan, Seventeenth street, between Thirteenth and Fourteenth avenues. The deceased was a laborer by occupation. Lizzie, daughter of George and Lavina Lynch died at the residence of William Berkheimer, Ninth avenue between Ninth and Tenth streets, about 4 o'clock Sunday morning, aged 9 months and 3 days. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Under the head of announcements this morning will be found that of Coroner W. H. Glenn, of this city, who is a candidate for renomination. Mr. Glenn has made an efficient official and should be selected by the convention, as its candidate for the office coroner will be selected by a good round majority. The funeral of Charles J. Stahl took place Sunday afternoon from his late residence No. 11091/2 Eleventh avenue. Many of the members of the Froshinn society were in attendance. The interment was in Fairview cemetery. It is estimated that fully 2,000 people were in the cemetery during the funeral service. By an accident in McCoy's coal mine at Gallitzin on Tuesday evening one miner had an arm broken and a leg so badly injured that amputation was necessary, while his companion had an arm broken. The injured men were named Frank and Wozerak, Polanders, and their injuries were attended to by Drs.
