Treese Reunion Is Happy Event During a day of sunshine on Saturday, in the Wildwood park at Clappertown, with its pearling streams of fresh spring water, beneath the foliage of great sycamores and willows and on nature's green carpet, the Treese and kindred families had a day of festivity as had been planned for last year and so well arranged for the social event. Folks from Clappertown, Royer, Williamsburg, Hollidaysburg, Altoona and elsewhere in the number of several hundred gathered during the early part of the day. The young men played ball during the forenoon and afternoon. The older ones had social chats and the good mothers prepared for the dinner. At the noon hour the families and their guests gathered at the tables, several hundred feet in length and partook of the many good things of the season. The Treese family is one of the oldest in the cove. Their ancestors came here from lands beyond the sea during the early part of the nineteenth century. Being industrious and frugal in habits, the families grew in number and have taken an important part in the industries. They worked at the iron ore furnaces, in the mines, tilled the farms, managed the quarries and a number of them have responsible positions with the railroad companies. Like many other people during the days of the Civil war, the fathers and sons went to the field of strife and the mothers worked and wept at home. They have taken an active part in civic affairs and belonging to various denominations have an important part in the Christian church. An interesting business meeting was held at the close of the celebration. Edward Treese of Hollidaysburg presided as chairman and J. B. Treese of Hollidaysburg officiated as secretary. It was decided to hold this annual outing of the Treese family every year. The following officers were elected to serve for the ensuing year: President Calvin Rhodes, vice president and treasurer, M. E. Treese; secretary, J. R. Treese. President Calvin Rhodes then appointed special committees on representation in Duncansville, Hollidaysburg, Williamsburg and Roaring Spring. ------------------------------ Annie Whiteman PABlair Rootsweb List Administrator Annie Whiteman/Steve Patz Blair County Coordinators http://www.rootsweb.com/~pablair
