    2. IN OTHER COUNTIES Items of Interest Clipped and Condensed From Our Exchanges Many hogs are dying in Greenwood township, Perry county. Rev. J. H. McCarrah, of Williamsport, on Friday morning received a present of a handsome gold watch. It is the gift of his ministerial brethren of the Central Pennsylvania conference. Wilson Cool, employed in a carriage manufactory at Rebersburg, Centre county, was struck in the eye by a bit of red hot iron a few days ago, cutting the eyeball and probably destroying the sight. On Saturday night, the 14th, a barn belonging to Judge Munson, of Phillipsburg, was destroyed by fire. Among the contents destroyed were thirty-five tons of hay and 111 dozens sheaves of rye. Constable Mahaffy, of Coalport, while on duty at the Irvona "campmeeting" on Sunday, emptied ninety bottles of "pear cider" on the ground. It bore an amazing resemblance to ordinary whiskey. Mary M., the 9 year-old daughter of Jacob Harlan, of Lewistown, on Monday night was so badly burned by her clothing taking fire from a match with which she had lit a lamp that she died on Tuesday evening. The prohibitionists of Mifflin county have nominated the following ticket: Assembly, Jerre W. Horton; associate judge, W. R. Graham; prothonotary, W. M. Doughman; register and recorder, Frederick Romig; director of the poor, R. G. Shaw. Samuel Durbin Gray, esq., a highly esteemed member of the Centre county bar, died at his home in Bellefonte Monday after a lingering illness, his disease being cancer of the stomach. He was a son of Samuel P. Gray, of Half Moon Valley, and a brother of Rev. Tarring Gray, of Lewistown. Deceased was a prominent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Ella, the 9 year-old daughter of Mr. Adam Decker, of Snydertown, near Hublersburg, in this county, was so severely burned by her clothing taking fire last Saturday afternoon that she died the following day. The child's mother was preparing a chicken for cooking, when the little girl asked permission to singe the feathers. Leave was granted and her clothing ignited from the flames and her flesh was burned to a crisp. Bellefonte News: A serious accident occurred on the Buffalo Run railroad on Wednesday. The construction train was making its regular trip over the road, Rails were piled crossways in the cars and behind them rode three employees and one old gentleman named Raupt, who was merely taking a ride. The pile of rails, shaken by the motion of the cars, fell over in the direction of the men. The old gentleman was crushed so badly that it is feared he will not live. His home in the vicinity of State College. In denying a rumor of an impending strike among the miners of the Clearfield region, the editor of the Mining Records says: "As far as our knowledge goes, and we do not think it is very limited, we have never known the miners of the Clearfield region, and especially of this, its great central point, so thoroughly satisfied with the condition of affairs as they are at present. They have been granted by the operators all and more concessions than they asked for; they are paid regularly twice a month every dollar that they ear, and are free to spend it how and when they see proper." ---------------------------------------------------- A Suicide Devoured by Buzzards Reading, Pa., August 24--Turkey buzzards were seen hovering over a woods near Armstrong for the past several days. Investigation showed that the body of a man was lying in the woods, half eaten by the ravenous birds. He proved to be Jonas Becker, a bachelor, aged 69 years, who disappeared a week ago.
