    2. Two More Accidents Last night about 11:30 o'clock as engine No. 696 was being taken out of the Middle Division round house, Harry McCord, who is employed as a yard brakeman, attempted to get on board when he was caught between the tank and wall of what is known as the tunnel, being squeezed through a space of only about eight inches. Being picked up from where he had fallen, the ambulance was summoned and he was taken to the hospital where an examination of his injuries was made and it was found that while no bones were broken he had sustained severe internal injuries, the extent of which it would require time to determine. During the night he expectorated large quantities of blood and his sufferings were very great. He is a married man, 24 years of age and has his home at No. 321 Seventh avenue. While in the act of cutting a train of cars near Fourth Street, last evening, brakeman W. S. Davis endeavored to draw a coupling pin when his lift hand was caught and severely squeezed. He was taken to the hospital where it was ascertained that the second finger had been so crushed that its amputation at the first joint was necessary. The thumb was also badly injured but it was thought this member could be saved. After his wounds had received proper treatment he was removed to his home at No. 1005 Fifth avenue. this is the second accident with which Mr. Davis has met within a short time, he having received painful injury only lately be being struck on the shoulder by a piece of a broken coupling in which, after snapping in two pieces, flew to the top of a box car, where he was standing. -------------------------- City Criminal Matters There was one hearing at the Mayor's office this morning, because the officers who made the arrests last night were attending court. There was no noticeable decrease in the large number of persons present during the previous days, and the Grand Jury still continued its labors, grinding out a grist of criminal indictments. The following business was transacted at this morning's session: The Grand Jury made return of the following bills of indictment: Com. vs. Charles Estright. Larceny. Receiving stolen goods. Charged with entering the coal office of J. J. Canan in Altoona, and stealing the sum of $16. This case was on trial when court adjourned last night, and absorbed the attention of the court and jury throughout the morning. The defendants claimed that they were peddlers from Ohio, had never been in Canan's office, but they admitted that they were in Altoona, at the time under assumed names.
