William Rathou, a Perry county glutton, recently devoured four pies and a bowl of oysters in 4 1/2 minutes. Mr. Joseph Stiffler, of Conemaugh borough, has lost two children by diphtheria and a third is critically ill. Mr. Gruver, father-in-law of Judge Grier, of Perry county, died in New Bloomfield recently after a lingering illness. Mr. Edwin Hartley, of Bedford county, raised on a quarter of an acre of land last year over 400 pounds of tobacco. Scarlet fever has bereft David Kinney of Portage township, Cambria county, of four children within a few weeks. The Juniata Conference of the Lutheran Synod of Central Pennsylvania will meet in New Bloomfield on the 14th inst. A number of Clearfield sportsmen propose making an effort to have a special game law passed for their county. Mr. Charles R. Reese, of Tyrone, and Miss Emma Wighaman, of Huntingdon, united their fortunes on Tuesday last. The Lewistown Gazette informs us that Crever Cubbison had three fingers torn off by a clover huller on Friday of last week. Mrs. Susan Weaver, a much esteemed resident of Bellefonte, died recently of consumption in the 61st year of her age. Isaac Imler, an old and respected citizen of Bedford township, Bedford county, died recently after an illness of but a few days. Nineteen stalwart Republicans have already announced themselves as candidates for the office of Treasurer of Indiana county. A small Clearfield boy named Wrigley had a leg broken by a gate which the wind blew shut while he was in the act of passing out. Daniel Swartz, of Juniata township, Perry county, has lost thirty-two skeps of bees during the winter. That was all he had, too. Mr. F. H. Barker, of Ebensburg, intends devoting his energies to the patriotic work of improving the breed of Cambria county sheep. J. F. Snyder, Esq., one of Clearfield's rising attorneys, formerly of Hollidaysburg, is a victim to the eye epidemic referred to above.
