    3. KICK OFF OF ALTOONA, STATE GAME AT 2.30 Altoona High's football schedule will be pried open again this afternoon on the Cricket Field with the crafty State College High for an opponent. Last year both teams met in the opener on the same field after the Maroon and White transferred its local schedule from the East End athletic field to the Cricket field. That game was a thriller from start to finish. At the end of one solid hour's battle neither side had passed one another's goal line. Strangely, the visitors are due here shortly before the noon hour with a strictly veteran team - graduation last year making no inroads upon the football squad. On the other hand the Maroon and White combination has two-thirds of its present squad green but very promising lads who can be counted upon for one tough and scrappy bunch of players. According to the advance sale of tickets in the local High school yesterday a record crowd is anticipated on the Cricket field today. A squad of Pennsy bluecoats will be on hand to retain control of the playing field. Cheer leader Mutzabaugh has his band of 200 rooters groomed for a grand afternoon's rooting and songfest. A number of brand new classy yells have been rehearsed for today's contest which starts promptly at 2.30 with Referee Turner in the role of referee. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Saturday Morning, November 9, 1918 ______________ Maybe somebody on the list should be taking bets!
