PAUL DUNN WAS VICTIM OF GAS ATTACK, AT WAR Popular Young Business Man, Who Went to France After Short Preliminary Training, Gets Dose of Mustard Fumes - Getting Well Private Paul Dunn, a son of Mrs. Matthew Dunn, of 1703 Eighth avenue, was gassed while in action late in September, and is now in a base hospital, according to a letter received by Mrs. Dunn yesterday. It was written on Oct. 5 by the soldier and he stated that he had been absent from his company for two weeks. Private Dunn left this city in April for Camp Lee, and after six weeks of preliminary training was shipped to France as a member of Company D, 313th machine gun battalion, he failing to get a furlough before going to the other side. The letter stated that he was getting along nicely, and soon expected to return to his command. He was caught in a wave of mustard gas, hurled by the enemy, and before he could adjust his gas mask, had breathed some of the poisonous fumes. Private Dunn is well known in this city and before joining the army was connected with F. J. Hoover & company store, 1703 Eighth avenue.
