ALTOONA HIGH FALLS TO STATE COLLEGE ELEVEN BY 12 TO 0; ZEIGLER AND SNYDER FEATURE With a line that was stiff as a stone wall, but an offense that crumbled at critical times, the Maroon and White gridiron squad fell to State College High at the cricket battlefield Saturday afternoon by a 12 to 0 score. Two costly fumbles, one [on?] their own five yard line, on the part of the locals, let State College win the battle. Only in the first and final quarters did the visitors endanger the goal line of the local squad, and Ziegler was the only man to make consistent gains. The defense of the Altoona boys was marvelous. The line was like a stone wall and the visitors were unable to make a single gain of any importance through it. Captain Walton, Whisler and Fitzgerald held the line with the strength of giants, and State was entirely unable to pierce it. Ziegler hit the ends for strong gains several times, but Bratton's costly fumble near his own goal line of a long punt, paved the way for the first touchdown, while fumbling on the part of the Maroon and White occurred several times, each one of which resulted in trouble. Snyder featured the offense of the local squad. He made sensational runs on several occasions, but never had enough interference to break through. He got away with a pass from Fitzgerald that netted 29 yards, but he caught it on the boundary and was thrown out immediately. The game was really devoid of sensational plays, but the fans, and there were not any great number there, delighted to see State attempt to hit the Maroon and White line and the runner drop in his tracks without a gain. . . .
