Falling on his head and neck, from the top of a box car in the local yards this morning, Edwin Franklin Wolfe, aged 31, of 1425 Fourth avenue, Juniata, was seriously injured, the fall being one that in most cases would have proven fatal. Wolfe, who is a brakeman, was a member of the crew of Engine 25, which, in charge of Conductor D. B. Lasher and Engineman George Yon, was making up a train in the coal yard, just east of the Juniata scales, at 8:05 o'clock, and was applying brakes on a box car when the brake rigging broke and he was thrown to the tracks. Wolfe fell on his head and neck on the ties and was rendered unconscious. He fortunately did not fall under the train and fellow trainmen placed him on a engine and brought him to Eighth street, from where he was take to the Altoona hospital. While a fall of that kind would almost in any case result in a fracture of the skull or concussion of the brain, it was found that he had escaped both, but that the muscles of his neck are badly sprained and that the nerves in the right arm injured, the arm being practically paralyzed. While his injuries are serious, they are not regarded as at all fatal. --------------------------------------------------------- Bursts Blood Vessel John H.
