    2. Woodbury Splinters Dr. R. Christian has been on the sick list for the past week. Dr. J. A. Baird and family, of Brisbin, are paying us a friendly visit. Rev. E. Dutt, assisted by Rev. Andrew Decker held communion in the Lutheran church on Sunday. On Monday night a murderous assault was made on Jerry S. Reminger and wife in Bloomfield township. As they were about to retire their neighbor Sylvester Mock appeared and began throwing stones, hitting Mr. Reminger in the back and forehead and knocking him senseless. Mrs. Reminger being a powerful woman, physically made for him saying, "For God's sake don't kill us, Mock" when he started on a run towards his home, followed by Mrs. Reminger for some distance. Mr. Mock has been put under bail and will have a hearing before W. H. Clouse, esq., on Saturday. On Sunday night the safe of John L. Replogle, esq., was opened. At about midnight Mrs. Replogle woke up and discovered there was a light on in the mill room. She awakened her husband, who at once went to the mill and to the door where the thieves were at work. When he saw who they were he left the mill unnoticed to get help. On his return the screeching of a door alarmed the rascals, when they jumped out of the window, leaving a shawl which they had hung over the window. Mr. Replogle had left the outer door of the safe open, so they had only the inner locks to work on, which they had not yet succeeded in opening. Consequently they left with less than they came. Mrs. Clara A. Longenecker, wife of our leading merchant, A. S. Longencker, and the last sister of Messrs. W. S. and William Lee, of Altoona, departed this life on Saturday last, at the home of her father, James Lee, esq., aged 38 years, 6 months and 24 days. When 15 years of age she joined the Lutheran church and gave her heart to God, of which church she remained a consistent member unto the end. The high estimation in which she was held by her friends and neighbors was well attested by the unusually large number that attended her funeral. She had been confined to her room for the last six months with that wasting disease consumption, yet she was always cheerful and resigned to the will of Him who doing all things best. Peacefully she passed from her husband, six small children and every person her friends, to her rest in heaven. Yes, Clara has gone to her eternal home, leaving behind her a Christian character worthy the imitation of all. ------------------------------------------- Frankstown Findings A meeting of the Prohibition association of Frankstown township has been announced, to take place on Tuesday evening, June 15, in Frankstown. The Methodist Episcopal congregation of Frankstown are putting a new roof on their church, and expect to have it repainted and otherwise repaired. We do not wish to be egotistical, but, according to our judgement, we would differ somewhat from the last assessed value of property situated in and about the old town of Frank. On Monday last the school board organized by electing Elias R. Moore president; T. T. Hilemen, secretary, and Blair Brua, treasurer. Salary of teacher for the coming year from thirty to thirty-five dollars per month. The winter grain in this township will not average a half crop. The corn on light and sandy land is well set but small, and on clayey and heavy land it has been replanted and still very little corn. From present appearances there will be an abundance of cherries and plums, no peaches and some apples, but we fear not as plenty as was anticipated earlier in the season. ------------------------- >From McKee Miss Lucy Loudon, of your city, was visiting here a few days, being the guest of Mrs. Hartman. Cherries are already in market, and from what we can learn there will be plenty and still some to spare. Mrs. Sarah Lorenz, of Leamersville, was away attending the funeral of her father. She returned home yesterday. The festival held by the United Brethren church of East Freedom at that place Friday and Saturday evenings was a success financially and otherwise. We are told there will be a wedding in the near future and suppose before another writing the parties will have that knot tied and be in the matrimonial ring. Boys, take a warning in time and look out for the ladies who call themselves beggars, for they are going around once again with pencil and paper and say there's going to be another festival. Rev. Owen Hicks will deliver a temperance lecture in the Methodist church here this Wednesday evening of 7:30 o'clock. All should avail themselves of hearing on this occasion as it will certainly be quite a treat. --------------------------------- Eldorado Items The fruit crop is promising. Our Sunday school is promising fair to be progressive this summer. If any one wishes to see some nice clover fields, just take a drive around by Eldorado. Long days, short nights and plenty of hard work have closed our literary society for the season. Our old friend John Riling has quite recovered from the injury received from being kicked by his horse. Our friends the Colclesser Bros., are doing a fair business in the ax factory. They are good fellows and do excellent work. Business at the warehouse has been very good this spring. Thirteen Deering self-binders have already been sold this season by our friends, H. I. Stultz. A car load of these binders has just been received and several taken by farmers immediately from the car. J. A. Boyce, our railroad agent, has recently purchased the William Lantz estate. This is a valuable property and a beautiful location, it has on it one of the best orchards at Eldorado. We congratulate our old time friend on this purchase. The last correspondence we noticed from here seemed to have East Eldorado badly mixed up with Eldorado. East Eldorado is situated nearly one half mile southeast from Eldorado and is honored with one democrat. Eldorado is void of this honor. East Eldorado has been making some improvements. J. A. Boyce has nearly completed his new house and Mr. Strong has been repairing his. We learn that Mr. Blackburn is going to build this season in the vicinity of East Eldorado. ---------------------- A Good Set Of Teeth Inserted for Ten Dollars Dr. J. S.
